Yep, it seems to slow it down. Will try to measure how much. Maybe the latest kernel could resolve this problem. Also it seems strange to me, as Windows updates uCode on startup (if i remember correctly). So why updated uCode in BIOS causes slow-downs…

mod?OROM what is it?
Hey Sylar76, thanks for constantly updating. Can we not use the latest BIOS but with a previous microcode, like 3A? Shouldn’t this solve the speed issues?
EDIT: Also, did the BIOS just got pulled? For some reason I do not see it on the website anymore.
3C microcode patch is for spectre. It is obvios that affect at least a little bit?
Sylar76 what is OROM?
I can see it again, I have no idea why I could not before. Do you think that we should not use an older microcode for better performance?
OROM = Option ROM (like LAN/SATA for example).
IMHO I never had any issues at all with 3A microcodes and any Windows 10 version (Anniversary, Redstone 2/3 and 4), so I don’t bother about meltdown/spectre security breaches. The most important thing is how a PC is used.
please mod the R5E10 bios as well.
Hey All, I was going to be doing a wipe/reinstall of Windows 10 and was going to do a BIOS update as well from 3801 to the 3902 possibly…but was wondering if the microcode issue has been resolved yet?
After reading about one of the microcode updates from Intel to fix the spectre issue was slowing some systems down… I was thinking it might be better to wait. Has this been resolved or are people just avoiding this by using an older microcode (3A?)
Hi folks,
Watch this:

If you fix the threat there will be slowdowns. In the future there will be not fix for slowdowns.
Shit happens, this is the situation.
Sylar76…which microcode are you using with BIOS 3902? I am wanting to setup a 3902 with a microcode that does not affect my performance. Would that be 3A or 3B? 3C is the one that causes the performance issues right?
3902 from Asus (as well the R5E Edition 10 one) uses latest Intel microcodes which fix meltdown/spectre security breaches but cause performance drops.
This is the main difference between the beta bios and the 3802. But if you need 3902 with 3A microcodes, it is better to use 3802.
There is no difference, only if the version is not same.
You mean BIOS 3801 right? Did I miss a 3802?
Sylar76 It seems you and I have the same chip, 5930k. What are you using on it right now? 3801 Bios with 3A microcode? I checked mine and my 5930K is running BIOS 3801 with 3B microcode and it has really affected my performance.
I am relatively new to microcodes, but I can follow steps. I am going to do a clean reinstall here this weekend and was curious as to what you would do as far as the BIOS/Microcode thing. I am thinking I need to get back to 3A somehow?
