I know this thread is kind of older but i just stumbled upon this the other day.
So i have the first gen x399 Zenith Extreme MB, i have a 2970wx running 64gb of Corsair Dom ram 3000mhz cl15 ram, i have all dimm slots populated. I have been running the ram at 2933, I can never get anything higher stable. I have all m.2 slots populated as well as the asus x4 m.2 card in the 3rd slot down running in the 4x4x4x4 lane config etc etc…
Han i just flashed my bios to your modded 2601 driver hoping it would fix my issue… I had a 6900xt running in it forever and was always having random lock ups and freezing and stutters. I have ran fresh installs of windows 11 pro and have tried everything i can think of and nothing seemed to ever fix it. I recently got a 5070 TI and swapped out my 6900xt for video editing and AI work etc… I was supper excited to try it out in my workflow only problem is no matter what I have tried i cant get the thing to boot using pcie 3.0… i have been running the card on gen 2 pcie, as soon as windows loads and i try to log in and the gpu drivers load instant hard lock… I was really hoping your modded bios would fix this… i have tried disabling rebar along with toggling a bunch of other settings on and off trying to get it to run pcie 3 but nothing is working…
Han I saw you post that you were running a 4080… do you have any tips on trying to get 3.0 stable with the 5070 TI?
Thank you for putting all these modded bio’s together by the way!!! Guys like you are amazing people!!
I’m still running an ROG Strix GeForce RTX® 4090 OC Edition but I’m running it with a water cooled loop with OptimusPC waterblock and Heatkiller IV waterblock on the CPU. Avg temp never exceeds 46 Celsius! I have it rock stable at 3066Mhz to 3133Mhz with 64GB of memory; but I goosed up the memory voltage to 1.40-1.42 volts. (Upper limit at 1.45 Volts but only with very high quality memory! eg GSkill with Samsung 9 or 10 nanosecond B dies) At present I’m running it with a U.2 Western Digital SSD of 16TB; you have to use the bios bifurcation setting x4x4 for the bottom PCIe slot to connect the U.2 cable! Also dual booting with 4 units x Samsung 980Pro 2TB on the PCIe add in card. Not using the DIMM.2 card. Currently running Debian Trixie as test OS on one of the 2TB SSDs. NVidia’s last three drivers for the 5000 series have been as buggy as all get out in Windoze.
The most recent on 576.52 seems to behave better, but the ones before were giving all kinds of blue screen or simply black ones! My daughter is on there a lot so I just spelunk the rig when her games crash!
Used the NVidia linux driver v 575.51.02 | BETA is mostly stable as they iron out the Wayland driver and the bug testing phase before release. I’ve run DOTA on there just for fun and it has performed well.
I’ve added in a ConnectX-5 dual 10G fibre optic card for high speed local network to my router stack and switches. (very speedy)
Cheers
yeah my only issue is i cant get pcie 3.0 stable… i can only boot into windows when the slot is on gen 2… I have tried so many different driver versions and that didnt make a difference for me… im running athe 576.52 studio driver… i dont know why for the life of me i cant get pcie 3 to work
I’m using the 2950 16 core; while you’re using the 2970wx 24 core which has NUMA settings!!
If you are using a specific software or application that requires NUMA, you may need to enable it, but for general use and gaming, disabling it is usually the best option for the 2970WX on an X399 Extreme. See if that makes a difference. When using NUMA settings for professional work 2933 is a safer bet. I think Wendell Level 1 Tech has chatted about this on his youtube channel sometime ago. You might want to follow up on that thread of thought!
Yeah I’m just using the 10gig nic that came with the board originally, I have a 10gig internal network and a 5000/5000 fiber connection to the house lol. Everything has been working great until I got the new 5070 and I can’t get the dang thing to not lock on gen 3
Check & verify BIOS these settings: CPU PCIE Link Mode: Set to [GEN3]
SB PCIE Link Mode: Set to [AUTO]
Also update AMD chipset drivers to latest version AMD Chipset Drivers version: 7.04.09.545 if you haven’t already.
Toggle Memory via DOCP to desired speed and increase voltage to test for stability Max 1.45V.
My memory voltage setting 1.40 - 1.42/3066Mhz - 3133Mhz respectively. Max 1.45V
yeah after doing a ton of research yesterday it looks like its a wide spread issue on x399 boards… no custom bios or anything is going to help me out here… thank you for the information though… i might just upgrade to a newer system once i can save up enough and throw my TR into my nas, i just have a 5600x running in my truenas box right now… i might just turn it into a full fledge killer thread ripper server… run some VMs and workflows on it and upgrade my main rig to a 9950x or something
