After some messing got the bios browsing down to 0.75v now and its sorted the heat issue out down to 22c. no i dont use LLC either. running at 3.65ghz on air at stock volts, it now drops to 1400mhz with no load and 0.5v, windows now idles at 14c
That would explain better vcore readings for you then. Once you start increasing voltages thats when you will see the bad vcore stability kick in. Also, as of 6:30pm UK time there is still no firmware update for the Gaming 5 on the US Gigabyte site so anyone hoping for that is out of luck right now.
Yea ket i just looked, cant find the update here either, its ridiculous. Such a good board ruined by its softwares, that said at least ive got my RGB side of it working properly now. it plays nice with corsair link at last. youve done more with this single UEFI bios than GB have in 6 months.
Quick update before the weekend: last round of testing identified a bug in 1072a. We just received the patch from AMD. They will be working on it first thing next week. Depending on testing it should be available early next week (assuming the patch works and no new bugs are found).
Really is a problem of Amd? Or gigabyte? Iām sure to stand in F9c in the next weeksā¦
While its easy to get frustrated with Gigabyte because they have done so little with the firmware for their AM4 boards its worth remembering the only manufacturer that has released new firmware based on the new AGESA is Asus. Asrock, Biostar, Gigabyte, and MSI all havenāt. On the other hand there are always those that will look at this as simply another broken promise from Gigabyte. Lets remain cautiously optimistic though as it actually seems like Gigabyte have taken their thumb out of their arse and are actually fixing the Aorus firmware up. Heres hoping they release something with enough options to be comparable to the likes of Asrock and Biostar because this next AGESA update is make or break for Gigabyte and their AM4 boards IMO if they fail again it becomes a 4 horse race when it comes to enthusiast grade boards to consider; Asrock > Asus > MSI > Biostar.
Updated first post with modified UEFI F9f for the Gaming 5
Nice 1,
Hereās a great looking wallpaper and boot image for you guys.
Im not directly blaming gigabyte for this, i blame AMD for being so sloppy, they are really casual with releasing updates for all ryzen boards. so whats been added to the new bios then ket? while i understand ryzen as a platform has been built from the ground up completely new in every respect, companies should ABSOLUTELY NOT release hardware unless it 100% working, to me its like buying a new car without headlights.
Corsair are just as bad with all their LINK stuff.
So if anyone from gigabyte is reading this PLEASE DO NOT release ANY BIOS unless it has been 100% TESTED and is FULLY WORKING.
Ive got that dreaded crackling/hissing sound on my gaming 5 with onboard audio, hopefully your realtek driver on the first page will sort it all out. All i want to do is get everything 100% working so i can back my machine up, but these stupid problems keep popping up everywhere!
With all this said i feel REALLY sorry for intel owners, their latest platforms make no sense at all and are a right mess.
EDIT: ive noticed the ZEN common options have gone in this bios
The AGESA code is extremely complete, the problem is that AMD do not dictate certain options that MUST be bought forward and exposed to get the most usability, compatibility, and flexibility which they absolutely should because it would stop lazy manufacturers like Gigabyte from half arsing the firmware. Great examples of a manufacturer trying to give the most usability, flexibility and compatibility are the firmware for the Biostar GT7 and Asrock Gaming K4.
This is a mesasge for anyone here on the gaming5 (not k5) If you set up your ZEN OPTIONS " p-state 0"up to 3600MHZ and set the bios to OTHER OS NOT Windows10 OR WINDOWS10 WHQL modes, then the cpu will clock down to 1500MHz AND drop the cpu voltage right down to 0.35V at idle. After doing this you can use ANY windows power profile not just POWER SAVER to drop the vcore down really low.
3600MHz is the best safe option all around for stock CPU voltages even on the supplied SPIRE cooler. of course you can go higher but only change the voltages in the P-State 0 section DO NOT change the vcore from auto under the M.I.T tab.
If you leave the BIOS set to WINDOWS10 or WINDOWS10 WHQL, the cpu voltage will only drop down to around 0.855v which is double, doing the above shaves off about 8C from the IDLE temps, even more on water, ive got this cpu running at idle now at 14C which is incredible.
Ket theres no common ground and a major lack of communication between these companies, indeed manufacturers are lazy in fixing issues, instead they are too concerned in pushing new products.
There is always a comparison to be made between manufacturers that are in the same business. In this instance Asrock and Biostar both show more willingness to give flexibility to the user with the options they expose in their firmware. Gigabyte are now 2 days late (4 if you are the kind of person that includes weekends) with their delivery on the new firmware and Iāll be the first to say if the delay is where they are significantly overhauling the firmware so it looks like something thats been done by a team of competent firmware coders then I donāt mind the wait. Last chance Gigabyte, get it right this time.
It will be available for download next week been speaking to them.
Out of everything with this board my biggest annoyance is with the power cycling.
Hi everyone,
ket what were the changes in F9f?
I can only see F9c beta for Gaming 5, was another beta released? is it 1.0.7.2a?
F9f is 1.0.0.6b still but it has some added advanced memory options. In my case at least it fixes the constant external HDD disconnects when connected to the front USB ports as well.
Hey Guys, i have a problem. I cant boot the stick on my Gaming K5. What could be the mistake ?
I just found out the hard way in fall creators v1709 win10, image restore doesnt work, so now ive lost 2 weeks of work, THANKS MICROSOFT
folks DO NOT "upgrade to 1709" you will be sorry if you do.
Are you referring to the memory modules? Make sure they are fully seated, you could also try them one module at a time in each DIMM bank. Youāll find out this way if you have a bad memory module or a dead DIMM bank. Also perform a full CMOS reset to clear any bad settings there may be .
I believe he is talking about the usb pen, Fabi92, just use the Q-Flash to rewrite bios, otherwise use rufus to create a bootable usb pen.
Strange, mine updates from in the bios itself "qflash" formatted to fat32 using a PNY usb flash drive.
however i was experiencing various performance problems with f9b so ive put the original f9a from gigabyte back, all the issues were related to USB the bios wasnt deleting settings from previous usb use and kept showing up on reboot, you need to be aware also if you keep flashing your bios all the time in the end you will damage it, its only ever meant to be done if you are experiencing problems.

That makes sense, just wasnāt that clear to me what he was trying to say But yes, Format your USB drive to FAT32 Fabi92 then just place the firmware file on the drive and use Q-Flash to update
