[OFFER] Gigabyte GA-AX370-Aorus Gaming 5 BIOS mod

@ket

is there a way to enable PBO on GA-AX370-Gaming 5 for my Ryzen 5 2600X?
i heard F23 had that option - i have your mod but would ask before flashing because now nearly "everything" works as intended :slight_smile:

Ket,

My board is the AX370 gaming K3. If you could mod the latest bios F50a for it, that would be great. I use this for my high end audio/video system, and that is my focus with the 3900x CPU. It has been very stable with the last bios you modded (F23). Where can I send payment for your time?

Thanks,

MAK

I have a Aourus Z390 Master, latest bios. WOuld love to have the timers lie HPET visible.

I can probably bring that option back in an updated firmware GB have likely just left the option hidden.

@racerxnet that shouldn’t be any issue F50a specifically or whatever firmware is the latest?

Hold tight everybody, major updates are coming. Due to certain CPUs and APUs having support for them dropped due to ROM size limitations I’ve been thinking how best to distribute modified firmwares so everyone benefits as much as possible, to that end I’ve decided there will be 2 tiers, firmwares that are a little older based on official F25 versions which still have support for CPUs/APUs that got removed with newer firmwares, these are for anyone to just grab, and a higher donation based tier just for the sheer amount of time it takes me to mod these firmwares that will be based on the newest firmware available. Theres no minimum donation on this higher tier, just whatever my time is worth to you.

How does that sound to everyone? Firmwares I intend to mod will be for the B350 Gaming and K3 models, X370 Gaming, Gaming 3, Gaming K3, Gaming K5, Gaming 5, and Gaming K7. Any models I’m not covering but anyone would like me to mod I’ll treat as a donation based thing.

@ket
i would donate for a public GA-AB350N-Gaming-WiFi :wink: // i pn you over details :wink:

Alright @Benman2785 just drop me a PM when you get the time

Thank you, Ket, this is excellent news. I’m extremely happy you’ll be continuing to provide this service!

When the time comes for an upgrade on my X370 Gaming K7, I’ll be happy pay for your time on a mod of F50a (or whatever the latest is at that point!)

Your F7a mod has been working wonderfully with my 1800X, so much that I’ve seen no need to change anything until a CPU upgrade requires it (likely to a 3900X or 3950X eventually).

New firmwares are available in the first post based on F25 for X370 boards. Donation tier F50a versions are under construction

Massive updating and reworking of first post, should be much easier finding your way around it now.

@ket
THANK YOU for your F25M - now my DDR4-3200CL14 works out of the box :slight_smile:

Updated first post with B350 Gaming 3 F25 modified firmware.

Updated first post with F25 firmware for the AB350N Gaming WIFI.

PBO and xfr settings has been hidden by gigabyte for Gaming K3 after bios version F22. Their reason is in some boards PBO settings has some problem with new AGESA.
Could you bring PBO and XFR settings back?
Thank you.

@ket

i found an PBO error in your F25M Bios for GA-AX370-Gaming-5

it throttles the CPU (Ryzen 2700X) with PBO instead of enhancing it - worked fine with Ryzen 5 2600X (boosted to 4250MHz) && now 2700X only boosts to 3.9GHz with your bios - when using AVX it even goes down to 3750-3800MHz
your BIOS also just boosts in IDLE to 4GHz - with 1.325V
yet i am able to run 4GHz fixed with 1.2V

ps with F20 i can set a fixed CPU Clock and Voltage and still boot - not possible with any other Bios version (also not yours)

would be nice if you enable us to change PPT, TDC and EDC on our own :wink:

stay healthy

If I still had a Gaming 5 for testing then yes, without it, I’d be shooting blind.

@Benman2785 Disabling CPO and CBP in Advanced CPU Core Settings should fix the boosting issue on paper having them both on auto should have allowed the CPU to boost better in a bone stock configuration. TDC, EDC, etc settings should be in with the CBS or PBS settings, if anything needs modifying in there then I’d need to get hands on another Gaming 5 to do it as you can break CBS and PBS really easily.

i also dont find PPT, TDC and EDC in NBIO

i posted pictures

Hey @ket , first off I wanted to thank you for releasing more Gigabyte X370 modified firmwares! I’ve already installed your modded F25 BIOS on my Gaming K7.

I think I’ve found some minor issues with it, that I thought I’d let you know about.

There’s an option to enable or disable Wake on LAN here, under the Peripherals > Intel NIC screen. (And the option would be there for the Killer NIC too, I take it. If I was using it at all.)

But there’s also a second Wake on LAN option on the Power settings screen.

I can’t remember if this was the case before, with your modded F23 BIOS. But it’s definitely odd to have two options, in two different places, that have the same function.

Here’s the thing, though: If I set Wake on LAN under the Power options to Disabled, it stays that way. But if I set Wake on LAN to Disabled under Peripherals > Intel NIC, it doesn’t stick. Every time (after saving changes) I shut off the power or restart, it goes back to Enabled. Because of that, my computer is set to Wake on LAN, which I don’t want. (The BIOS definitely pays attention to this setting. I can see that the Intel NIC is still active when the system is shut down, because the activity light for it on my network switch is lit up. Since the setting always reverts to Enabled.)

Another thing I spotted, which admittedly is nitpicking, is that Gigabyte badly misspelled ā€œResolutionā€ on the Chipset options screen. Which could probably be fixed quite easily.

I also noticed that the (I think it was called) ā€œCEC 2019 Readyā€ option on the Power screen, which was to help reduce the amount of power the chipset uses, has disappeared. It was there in your modded F23 BIOS.

Again, these are pretty minor issues. But I thought I’d make you aware, in case you’d like to fix them. (These issues might apply to all the other Gigabyte X370 BIOSes, too?)

I’m happy to report, though, that F25 fixed a long-standing issue where if you plugged anything into the USB 2.0 ports, Windows would not show an icon in the Taskbar tray that would let you safely eject the device. It only showed that tray icon when using the USB 3.0 ports, before.

Thanks again for doing another round of modified firmwares!

@redrain85 the LAN issue is K7 specific, easy to fix though I’ll just remove the option from the peripherals section. Never noticed the spelling error but I’ll try to remember to correct that with any future releases as well. The CEC option is my doing though, I enabled and removed it by default as its something that made sense to just be enabled off the bat no option necessary. I wish I could get my hands on a X370 Gaming 5/7 again as stuff like spelling errors I’d notice a lot more, same with things like the duplicate LAN options. I still think GB did an absolutely horrible job with the firmware for the X370 boards (and even worse with the X470/570) and there are some very irritating bugs I never worked out how to fix such as changing the default RGB preset settings for certain colours (ā€œorangeā€ for instance looks more yellow without manually adjusted settings) but if I were asked now out of all the generations of boards which are the best I’d say the Aorus X370 5/7 with a modified firmware, Asus X370-F, and Asus X470 Prime. Theres a few other boards you can add to that list but none which are anywhere close to being as well balanced. Dual BIOS boards are also extremely thin on the ground, GB have the most boards, Biostar if you have the patience to fix their shitty firmware have a few as well, but thats about it. I don’t like the X570 boards at all though they are more a step backwards rather than forwards. The Sooner X670 arrives the better.

@Benman2785 somehow I made two typos there I meant CPB which is Core Performance Boost and TPB which is Turbo Performance Boost. Its probably TBP messing with things. The lack of PPT, TDC and EDC is where GB have probably hidden the options from the user I’d need to get my hands on another Gaming 5 or 7 to look in to that and test it properly as it likely wouldn’t be a simple matter of bringing the options in to user space.
