@canonkong Thanks for your reply, I’m going to buy a Samsung 9100 PRO tomorrow.
I’d also like to ask which MSI motherboard model you would highly recommend? I’m planning to pair it with the 9800X3D and 192GB ram to build the ultimate high-end Windows 7 PC.
I still prefer Windows 7 Ultimate and 192GB of RAM is already enough for me. Plus, the gaming performance of the Threadripper 7995WX isn’t necessarily better than the 9800X3D.
My MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk has been working fine for the past 4 months with a Ryzen 9950X. The only problem was during the initial build where I had to use an older graphics card with a VGA output to see and set the Bios from UEFI to legacy and turn off Secure Boot before the newer graphics card would work.
I was considering each of those before I got my current board, so I believe they will work, but I don’t have any direct experience except with the MAG X670E Tomahawk.
I finally built a new computer, but so far I’ve encountered two problems.
My Computer Specifications:
CPU: 9800X3D
Motherboard: MSI MPG X670E CARBON WIFI
Storage: Samsung 9100 Pro (PCIe 5.0) & PM981 (OEM version of 970 EVO)
Two problems I encountered:
On my computer, only the ASUS version of the USB 3.x driver works but non-ASUS versions do not.
The Microsoft and Samsung NVMe drivers are not working on my two M.2 drives. I suspect this is because the Samsung NVMe driver version 3.3.0.2003 does not support 980 or newer M.2 drives, and that OEM drives might be incompatible with this driver. (I’m not sure)
The solution I have currently come up with is to purchase a 970 EVO Plus and install Windows 7 on it. However, I think this might not be the best solution, especially since I have seen cases where Windows 7 was successfully installed on 980 and 990 Pro drives. So I’d really appreciate any suggestions or alternative solutions you might have. Thank you!
@canonkong or anyone else
How can I add USB drivers to already installed win7? I’m on B550 Gaming X V2 - tried emulate port 60/64 option in uefi but it didn’t work.
I have Win10 with dualboot Win7 from older platform that I can boot into but cannot do anything since none of the USB ports work.
I’ve seen method with making autostart for setup.exe (with -install shortcut path argument) but I don’t think that could work for me since I have a password on user, so system boots to login screen, and your drivers from post #1 are of .ini/cat type instead of .exe anyway.
Any ideas how to get around it?
@canonkong I am thinking of going with either a B450 and a B550 mobo. Is there compability, stability and speed differences between the two regarding drivers (and I mean between official drivers and yours)?
If you can still find an older (not emulated) USB 2 PCIE card, you can boot with your USB mouse connected through the card and have a working mouse to install the USB driver package in Windows 7.
