@ChromifyX
Why don’t you simply do what I proposed?
The name and HardwareIDs of the NVMe Controller is never written onto the SSD.
@ChromifyX
It is fine, that you succeeded, but other users with a similar problem may be interested to see the solution.
Which specific NVMe driver worked and how did you get Win7 installed?
i didnt get an nvme driver but i got the iso used an iso from a youtuber named sevoos (thanks to him) he helped me to make 7 working
@ChromifyX (reposted for edit/reply) Heya! What iso did you use? (I’m also trying to install, you can just say the name, if thats allowed, of the file you got because I might have the same iso)
How’d he help you get Windows 7 working past disk.sys?
I have the same issue but on Windows 7 32bit. For 64bit just Google crux 4.5 windows 7 and it will work for you. If anyone knows how to get 32bit win 7 working past disk.sys please let me know.

Since there is no WHQL certified NVMe driver available, which natively supports Win7 and the HardwareIDs of your on-board NVMe Controller, I generally recommend to integrate the MS NVMe Hotfixes into the boot.wim and install.wim of your desired Win7 Edition.
You can find the MS NVMe Hotfixes >here<.
Good luck!
Thank you @Fernando ! Two steps ahead of ya
@SupraGSX Thank you very much! I do have to ask, this is native Windows 7, yes? Just is modified to an extent for modern hardware?
Thank you for responding unfortunately my problem seems to run deeper. My board is a x870e CPU is 9950x3d. As you said ahci is dead end on am5. There’s no drivers but in theory nvme should be more universal as the controller is on the nvme itself. Using the above mentioned pre built I can get win 7x64 booting no problem. I’ve integrated about every single nvme driver for x86 windows 7 there is, and all result in bsod 0x7b. I’m actually going to try switching off the storport stack altogether and using the scsiport driver of nvme2k. Oddly enough I saw really similar behavior on Windows XP x86. It refused to boot off any of the win7 style backported drivers. Switching to nvme2k resolved those issues. I’ve managed to boot win98, windows xp x86 and x64, win 7x64, win 10x64 , win 11x64, and Linux all off the same Kingston nvme and it’s insane to me the one thats been by far the most picky is win7x86. I can get windows 7x86 booting on my x570 board by patching the acpi.sys to the acpi88 version and using the Windows 8 back port drivers just Google both if anyone is trying to boot 32bit on x570. I can sysprep that working install on nvme and move it to x870e and it will still bsod with 0x7b.
Yes it’s basically an updated x64 ultimate win 7. The guy who built it is Gold_Phoenix666 on reddit if you have questions he’s responsive and helpful. Only noticeable differences in the os are instead of a normal disk beside your local disk C he has a logo and it’s named Phoenix. Oh and the desktop background but you can change all that easily if it bothers you.
Got it, thank you very much!! I’ll definitely stick to this if it works, saves me the hassle of having to do VGA/Graphics Driver modifications for my system to get past into post-boot installation.
Edit: Added (@)
Good luck let me know if it works for you!
Hm… It still appears to be stuck at “Starting Windows”.
Should I integrate drivers into Windows 7 (installed) with modded UHD 630 graphics for my Comet Lake i7?
I’m using the v5 Crux version for non-csm
Perhaps i should also patch my ACPI, and integrate the nvme hotfixes in case it’s not there
Sorry to hear that I hoped it would just work for you. UEFI boot is not something I’ve ever tried and I’m coming from AMD so I’m not entirely certain about Intel. Crux 4.5 worked for me on my x870e but it is through bios/csm. A couple things to try/options depending on your commitment level to getting it to work.
1.) Reach out to Gold_Phoenix666 he can probably help you troubleshoot it and might have an even newer crux available.
2.) Don’t bother with UEFI install of Win 7 at all. If your board doesn’t have a csm mode, just use CSMWrap. Then install the before mentioned 4.5 crux.
3.) If you’re willing to pay there is a utility called Flashboot that I’ve used and I know it specifically has a win 7x64 UEFI install feature. Again never tried it but I know it exists.
For troubleshooting do you have a win 10/11 install on a different drive in the same PC you’re trying to install from or no?
Is it giving you a bsod stop code or just restarting?
This post might be useful to you

Thank you very much for your reply and help/assistance (genuinely)
I don’t have csm mode. Though Gold_Pheonix’s v5 W7 release has the no-csm requirement so csm may not be needed. (Although, I know in some cases it is needed. My laptop is a 2020 release, though. Dell G7 7700, if that helps)
I have tried and a little bit used csmwrap before but i’ve had trouble making it a more native experience for me. Installing the cpu’s display drivers led to a black screen on restart with csmwrap.
I do have (main OS) windows 10 installed on my second ssd for troubleshooting. How or what can I troubleshoot?
Flashboot’s efi’s hasn’t worked for me either.
No problem man. I know exactly what you’re going through lol
In windows 10 download and use WinNTSetup. Use either crux or maybe the above mentioned iso as the install.wim put your install and boot drives to the target drive for the os. Use the unattended install. If you have any drivers you want to try slipstream them from the other drop-down box. Under tweaks check the box for mergeide and check disable reboot bsod. That will give you the best shot and if it fails it should give you a stop code you can use to troubleshoot. First step is figuring out if you’re having an ACPI related A5 error or 0x7b boot drive error or some other error and that will give direction on what to try to fix it.
I’ll try that when I can right away (a little later today maybe) Thank you!! I’ll let you know what happens. I’ll also ask Gold_Pheonix if needed later for specific stuff like you said if things don’t work out.
No problem. Also csmwrap had a 3.0 release recently and with that you should be able to dump your vbios off the igpu and use it as vgabios in csmwrap and in theory that “should” result in it working and not black screening. Gpu-z can be used to dump the vbios if that’s an avenue you’re willing to try.
As I said before it’s all really about how much time you’re willing to spend to get it working but there’s definitely options to try.
Good luck!
