[Problems with] Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 G834JY BIOS

SUMMARY: There is literally nothing shown in “Advanced BIOS”. Can’t flash earlier BIOSes which were working without problems. Also I am new to BIOS modding and there are too much protection I think. I don’t know what to do, how to fix this unusable “high end” wannabe laptop. The BIOS is AMI V2

This laptop that I bough at 2023’s 2nd half worked greatly until some BIOS update was forced around the beginning of 2024. I have waited for a better BIOS since then but it only went downhill from there. 13980HX mobile processor. ASUS applied the most ridiculous nasty amount of power decrease to their Intel 13th 14th gen CPU Laptops to “protect” the customers. And they lock RollBacks with protection methods.

I repasted CPU with LM etc. I can do a stable full load limit test of 175W without it throttling, even can get to 100C before the throttle if the load is stable. Though It has a nasty power throttle that even applies at 60-70C while gaming, mid CPU load, around 65W max . The limit appears as EDP Other simultaneously both for CORE and RING.

Did insane amount of research and optimization, learned everything about the UnderVolt and every aspect of the CPU. Though whatever I applied only can slightly help at the end. ASUS made this a prison-like super limited BIOS. You can only put 80mV negative offset via BIOS and nothing else. I can undervolt via ThrottleStop with no problems though, so UV protection is not on. But I can’t touch LLC, AC-DC_LLs, IA CEP.

I suspect:

1. LLC might be too steep causing high instantaneous current draw. Though I don’t have a method to see my LLC Vmins and Vcore. I can see Vreq and its absurdly high without undervolt (x52 requests to draw more than 1.55V under even low to mid load).

2. AC-DC_LL might be too high. 1.700mOhm for both.

3. I set 1024 for PL4, checked “Lock” box on ThrottleStop. HWINFO shows it’s honored but I can’t be sure if it can somehow be overwritten by BIOS_EC. And if so that VR coded low valued PL4 might be triggering with over sensitive PPP calculations.

4. I still can’t wrap my head around what makes the IA CEP trigger exactly but maybe just disabling IA CEP might fix my issue too. Which i can’t with this prisonish BIOS.

I don’t know the rules of this forum much. Sorry for the long post. Sorry if i made a mistake. I look up to any guide from anyone with knowledge. Either DIY or already made modding. I am up to paying too if it’s adequate for this forums rules.

No friend it was not a matter of me disliking your edit on my caption. I didn’t want people to think I put inadequate effort on my post thus me creating this post. Then I thought it was too long to intrigue people to read it resulted in my second extremely summarized post.

@ MartiniGM: Welcome at Win-RAID Forum! I have never had a problem to flash a modded v2104 BIOS into the BIOS chip of my ASUS P8Z77-V, when I used the USB Flashback method. The USB Flashback method should work nevertheless. I don’t think, that this is necessary. Questions: 1. How did you try to flash your modded BIOS? 2. What has been updated/modified within the BIOS? What i want to do is to see what settings of the cpu is currently throttling power. I have a very limited power headroom in this machine when the current isn’t stable. If i run a benchmark with 175W PL1 PL2 it won’t throttle but if I run a game with only 60W CPU draw with 20-30W GPU draw I have CPU throttling edp other reasons appear.

I have downloaded lates MMtool opened the BIOS there. Then tried extracting many drivers images and can’t make IFRExtractor find any ifr data at all.

PS C:\Tools\ifrextractor_1.6.0_win32> .\ifrextractor.exe “TcgPlatformSetupPeiPolicy_TE_image.bin verbose
No IFR data found” i keep getting this “no ifr data found”. What is my next step to inspect my hidden BIOS settings for CPU .

If you want to get an unlocked BIOS for your specific mainboard, you should better start a new thread within the “BIOS Modding Requests” Category. I recommend to give it a title like “[Request] Unlocked Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 G834JY BIOS”.
