RAID card is not recognised

Hi,
I have AsRock Z87 mobo, and an Intel RAID card based on LSI SAS 2208 chip (I could not remember exact model right now). When I plug it on one of my pciex16 slots, the raid card is not recognized by mobo, no raid configuration screen, it just boots to windows. Raid cart supports both x16 and x8 slots. I have not enabled UEFI boot. The raid card works as expected when I plug it on one of my servers pcie x16 slot, so card is ok. What could be the problem?

TIA.

You should try to look for it in the systembrowser of the BIOS (it’s on the mainpage at my ASRock Extreme6). When the card is properly shown there I think you have to configure it in the boot menu. I had a similar problem with a Marvell based SATA III card. Somewhere in your boot order or preferred hard disk list you have to allow this external card. On my ASUS board the Marvell PCIex4 card was just named “external device” so for boot order I choosed 1. external device 2. CD-ROM 3. Hard Disk and it worked.

Best regards hanson

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately its not show in the system browser, all slots are empty. I couldn’t figure it out why its not detected.

Ok that’s courious. Maybe you have configured the slots as PCIe 3.0?

It’s configured as Auto. Anyway, I got it working with riser card. It’s interesting that I thought riser card is just for rising. But still wondering why not working without riser…?

Yeah strange but good to hear that you succeded…

Thanks.
The problem when using riser card, you know, it blocks other pci slots.

Yes due to the 90° angle. Maybe the PCI slot has a bad contact or the RAID cards contacts are minimal too small so that it’s not recognised properly? I had this with agraphics card, it was only connected when I pushed it a little downwards…

I have already done that, but no way.
