Hi i recently bricked my ph315-52-78VL bios. I updated windows 10 and just nonchalantly ticked the optional update for my bios… computer restarted and fans ran on high for 30 minutes. Bricked bios I have the chip attached to a Ch341a programmer after doing the battery power reset to no avail. I am in need of a working bios file to program the chip. Also it has always bugged me not being able to change ram voltages and timings is there a way to unlock the bios and hit two birds with one stone? Thank you in advance! First, we will try to fix your bios. You say you have CH341A, upload chip data so I can download it.

Need to restore your bios only…otherwise you may lose your motherboard

@SaltySnakeFarm , now, write this bios backup file to your chip. Report results.

@SaltySnakeFarm first use the serial number of your laptop, find the update of your bios on the Acer website and post

Sometimes programmer cannot write properly if the chip is still soldered to the motherboard. How does the chip attached to your programmer?

I have desoldered it. I really dont like to use the clips and have it in a sop8 socket directly attached to the ch341a.

I am using AsProgrammer version 1.405 on windows 10 if that could be causing issues? Maybe a driver problem?

Hm. It becomes more complicated. I just took the BIOS dump from the working device, replaced the identification data in it with yours, and gave it. Maybe @Pythonic wants to prove himself?

Well If all else fails I can order a new Bios chip… or send it to acer and have them replace the whole motherboard for 600 US

I have successfully wrote the bios using a different ch341a programmer software but I will not know the results until probably monday now due to working all weekend. Cheers for all the hard work you guys put in and I will most definitely be donating to keep this site alive!

Yes there are two sw actually working well on win 10 AS programmer v.1.41 and i found with an smart user the MiniProgrammer (may be a clone of ASP), then

Its always good to have a little friendly competition now and again but as long as the firmware works for my chip its all good. I was tempted to boot up linux because windows is well windows. I would happily accept the links to the software and use the one that works the best. Windows is always finicky at the best of times.

Thanks to pythonic I got the system to boot with the updated firmware and a successful flash. Thank you @Sweet_Kitten for the initial support. It is really a chore pulling everything apart from the laptop to get to the bios chip so I may just leave it as is. :sweat_smile:
