Reading BIOS from ASUS Rog Flow Z13 with CH341A

Intel: Try fpt

Attach pics

Wait for someone who has done that for that specific model before.

Thanks for your reply. I wanna back up the BIOS firmware image using CH341A before I update it using tools like fpt. If I modified the BIOS wrongly, then it might cause my PC not even to start up and then I can’t use fpt to restore it. That’s why I need backup using CH341.

fpt can dumps, too. If Intel worth a try.

I know it can dump, but the reason why I am looking for the chip is that I wanna restore the bios when the bios is not working due to the modification. In this case, the fpt won’t work.

@james525 If you make a dump using fpt as lfb6 suggested then you will know the total size of the BIOS.

This is helpful if the BIOS is split across two EEPROMs (common in laptops) in the case that you only dump half (from one chip) with the programmer - you will then need to find and dump the second chip for a complete image.

In this case fpt -i would help, too.

@chinobino Thank you. I used AMI tool, afuwin64 and I got 16MB firmware image. My question is how I can find the chip on the board. Please help.

Where can I find the fpt-i?

Can you at least provide useful information regarding the system model/identification, when posting such questions in a forum, i really dont know what users are thinking when writing only the brand model name… for a task like this, not even a damm picture of the motherboard or any labels with IDs.

Asus Flow Z13 2023 (GZ301VV) PTM7950 repaste : r/FlowZ13 (reddit.com)

I am sorry for my bad. My laptop model is Asus ROG Flow Z13 (GZ301VV) 2023 model.
Do you want me to upload the picture of the motherboard?

Yes, thanks for the reminder!

@james525 You will need to use the correct version Intel Flash Programming Tool that corresponds to your chipset.

If you know which version of Intel Management Engine Firmware is contained in your current BIOS then you can determine the required version.

If it is version 16.x then you may want to read this thread:

Hi Fernando,
I really appreciate your effort and kindness to help people. I encountered a problem and I need your help. I have a notebook ASUS Rog Flow Z13-z301VV and I extracted the bios with AFUWINx64.exe of Aptio 5.x AFU and modified it. And then I tried to flash the modded bios with the same tool. But it fails the verification and it’s says “secure flash enabled”.
How can I possibly disable this “secure flash”?
Thank you in advance.

Once again the model was corrected by me, same as in 20 Set 2024… seems you living in the moon my friend…do you still remember your name???

No MOD bios can be flashed or override by normal AMI tools, this is ASUS and AMI bios security implementation.

If alternatives AMI Aptio guide flash and FPT method dont work as expected, then you have your own CH341A device…

Thank you for your correction. I am quite a bit novice in this field, so please forgive me for my bad. Actually, I wanted to use CH341A, but I couldn’t find the SPI flash chip that contains the BIOS, after disassembling the PC. Could you give me more guidance to solve this problem?

I would prefer not, besides the already photo published (What do you see on this foto, humm???)…why? Cause you have no experience at all in this, else you wouldn’t be asking this subject, and you’ll get a death motherboard for sure.

Do you mean the 8-pin chip in the photo is the SPI flash for the BIOS? I have already read from that chip using ch341A, but that chip was only 2MB sized, so I don’t think it is not the chip for the bios. Please teach me if I am wrong and give me more tips on how to find the right chip. (PS, I have succeeded in modifying and flashing BIOSs of some other desktops, so I think I can be careful enough not to make my PC dead, )

How many ICs that can accommodate your bios image, do you see in that photo?, an example grabbed by me on the web only…cause we never saw your mb.

Do you at least know of the read and identify the IC’s on a board and check their correct technical information from the vendor? Since you have done several mods on desktop models, this is probalby a walk in the park to you then…why im wasting my time with this…

Hi MeatWar,
I come here to learn from you guys. Yes, I admitted that I am a novice. If I knew everything, why would I come here?
I haven’t said anything rude to you, why are you so angry at me? If you think I don’t deserve your time, you could just ignore me.
I am just trying to solve my problem with BIOS modding.

Sir… i’m not rude, i’m a straight talking guy with no time for smooth words.
All this time have you posted your mb pcb photos, in order for any user to pointed them correctly? Do you think everyone here has all this info and all mbs technical info of all hardware models in the market? This is a remote chat in a forum, how can users help you without feedback provided? Do you expect a lot of users here with same issue and owning the same system?
Even more… if you were a perceptive person you already knew what too look for by giving some readings/learning about similar situations from threads in the forum, regarding bios recovery/programming and knew what feedback should be supplied… that’s why no other user recently had answered you, besides me, they are smarter and not loosing their time when they see that a user cant “reach it” by taking the initiative.

I will keep your advice in mind. Thanks for that.
I read this thread Intel (CS) Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware and Tools for (CS)ME 16+
and tried to find the FPT app but no success. I visited station-drivers.com and there were all articles, no app binaries.
Could you teach me where I can download the recent FPT?

In the same thread you linked just now and already pointed to you in 20 Set Post#11 by chinobino…
