I’ve searched the internet for over two hours now, trying to find AHCI drivers for a SB950 south bridge AMD chipset that would work on Windows XP 32-bit.
I found the thread that dealt with this on this forum to be very confusing, as I didn’t find out if the drivers were for the SB9XX series of south bridges (the drivers found on the internet were ONLY FOR THE SB7XX and SB8XX!) and the file provided with the drivers for XP had only RAID drivers drivers in it
(why Windows XP? It’s my 14-years old installation (never reinstalled … an operating system is like a car. Take good care of it, and it might go forever… It has over 1000 applications installed, yet runs smoothly. If you were to do that on Windows 8 or 10, the PC would probably explode. xD But I digress.), which is now dual-booted with Win7 64-bit Ultimate with crap like UAC completely (and I mean COMPLETELY) removed, because screw that. )
Reason? I kinda wish to buy a new harddrive (SSD, and move my system partitions there), my motherboard (Gigabyte 990X-GAMING SLI) has 6 SATA slots, but in IDE mode, only 4 of them work. :-S (any other way of unlocking that?)
My detailed specs are added (not the proper word, but I’m very, very sleepy now, so…) as a file to this post.
I have moved your post into this already existing stickied thread, because it doesn’t make sense to start a new thread for each specific driver request. Furthermore all recommended AMD AHCI/RAID drivers for AMD chipsets (incl. those, which are usable with Windows XP) are listed and linked within the start post of this thread. According to my knowledge there are no “pure” AMD AHCI drivers available, which do support Windows XP in combination with old AMD systems, but the “AHCI compatible AMD RAID drivers” are running fine with these Southbridges in a pseudo-AHCI mode. If you want any additional help, I need the HardwareIDs of your onboard AMD SATA Controller (right-click onto it > “Properties” > “Details” > “Property” > “HardwareIDs”). Unfortunately I cannot open and read your attachment (only .ZIP and *.RAR archives are allowed, no *.TXT files). By the way: Your posted link to a driver named “AMD_RAID_AHCI_XPWin7-81-10.rar” doesn’t work either. Where did you find that driver? I doubt, that it has been offered by me.
I specifically registered on this forum in order to be able to download that file.
Didn’t know the specified topic existed, as google didn’t link to it.
Reposting the file with my hardware and drivers in it in a text form, so you can see what I have.
Also when uploading files, it tells me this: " Wählen Sie eine weitere Datei aus" - whatever that means in German. (I’m Czech, by the way) Everything else is in english. Also I saw some German in the email that notified me of your reply.
EDIT: I’ve checked the first page and I have no idea which one to get. (can hardly read the screen however, due to sleep deprivation)
@Templayer : Thanks for the attached files, whose contents now could be seen and read by me. Here are my comments: 1. The driverpack, which was linked by our Team member plutomaniac in March 2016, has neither been composed nor offered by me. My statement to this driverpack can be read >here<. 2. To find out the best matching driver for your specific on-board AMD SATA Controller I just need its DeviceID (see my last post) and not the details of all the other on-board devices.
Which browser do you use? I am a German and this is what I see, when I use the German versions of Microsoft’s Edge (left picture) or Google Chrome (right picture):
I’m in work right now, but there is no centralized driver for AMD, as I have noticed in 99% of Intel tutorials - they have a centralized driver, whereas I only have primary IDE channel and secondary IDE channel there. I will send you the printscreens with what is shows in DeviceID for them later. Tommorow, probably.
And I’m using Firefox. A Czech version of Firefox in a Czech version of Windows XP. Neither of which have ever had anything to do with German. (i.e. they were not a German version originally, or something like that).
From this thread - AHCI Issues with WXP x64 I can see that you want the AHCI controller hardwareID and not the IDE controller hardwareID, as those are essentially two different pieces of hardware. And I cannot see the AHCI hardware without a driver. I won’t put them in my Win7 installation until I can get it working in my Windows XP, because I refuse to go to the BIOS each time I want to restart the PC into a different operating system in the case of every single driver on the planet for XP failing…
I’m going to copy my system partitions to a SSD that I just got and then I will simply experiment with different drivers until one of them works on the old harddrive.
Hello, we have received our new notebooks with nvme lenovo disk and we are not able to find the winpe drivers to boot those disks. The disk is: LENSE20512GMSP34MEAT2TA
My Windows got updated from Insider Preview 17035 to 17046, and now my RAID 0 array of 2x SM951 256GB NVME is "not accessible" ("F:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function."). Anyone know a possible solution?
It has probably been not a good idea to run a test OS with your NVMe RAID0 system. Questions: 1. Which NVMe driver is your NVMe RAID array using? 2. What does the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Utility within the BIOS show? Is the RAID array still healthy?
Well, I had installed the Samsung NVME drivers from this thread, however in Device Manager it said/says that the driver installed for each SM951 ssd is a Windows one. 2. It is a software RAID (Windows striped array).
Into which section of the Device Manager did you look? It has to be the “Storage Controllers” one, if you want to know the driver, which is used by the NVMe Controller of your SSDs.
Have you already tried to recreate the Software RAID?
@basura23 : Since the manufacturer of the device with the HardwareIDs “PCI\VEN_17AA&DEV_0004&CC_0108” is Lenovo, the related driver should be compiled and offered by Lenovo as well. I doubt, that any third party NVMe driver (not even a modded one) will work with that specific device.
Thanks Fernando for all the great information about this topic! I think I am nearly there…
I am trying to add support for a Samsung 960 Evo nvme drive to an Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 MicroATX motherboard. I installed a B + M key card in my PCIex slot and have an ok 512GB Samsung drive running in the B key slot - which just uses a SATA cable to the mobo - working fine. I also have a 256GB Samsung 960 Evo installed in the M key but it doesn’t show up anywhere - in Windows (I’m using 7) or in System Browser. System Broser shows a ‘Mass Storage Controller’ in the slot.
I followed the instructions on this forum to make a modded bios, removing the Intel Raid drivers and adding the Nvme drivers. I used the latest (1.8) bios for my board and extracted the Nvme drivers from the modded bios for the regular ATX version of this board, which I got from this forum. After successfully flashing this bios, there is a new ‘PCI device’ in my Windows device manager but still no drive showing up anywhere.
What have I done wrong or failed to do yet? Any help much appreciated!
What is a “B + C key card”? I have never heard it. Now to your problem: It is a fact, that the Samsung NVMe drivers (latest: v2.3.0.1709) do support the Samsung 960 EVO SSD. So if you have installed the specific Win7 variant of these Samsung NVMe drivers, your Samsung 960 EVO SSD should be detected by the OS Windows 7 (provided, that everything else is ok). As a consequence it seems, that your problem has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Before you are going to post your problem within a better matching Sub-Forum, you should find out, whether your problem is BIOS, PCIe slot or really driver related. You can do it for example by removing/unplugging all other HDDs and SSDs except the Samsung 960 EVO and trying to get Win10 installed onto the NVMe SSD. By the way: What is a “System Browser”???
