Hello! It’s my first time posting here, and I’m overall pretty new to this low level tinkering; I’ll try to be consise:
What the problem is: undervolting is unavailable on my Thinkpad P15G1 due to the overclocking lock in bios.
What I have already tried:
- Dumped the bios, confirmed the lock addresses, and attempted to change them using setup_var.efi. Got
Error while setting content of variable CpuSetup with code WRITE_PROTECTED
in response. Retried with TPM and all security-sounding bios features disabled, to no avail. - Built and ran PowerMonkey (GitHub - psyq321/PowerMonkey: UEFI Application for CPU Voltage/Frquency and Power Management adjustment. Great for undervolting.). While the power limit options were then locked in Throttlestop (so, PM is likely working), the voltage offsets didn’t seem to be applied. I’ve only tried the universal offset though, not editing the points.
What are my possible further steps here? From what information I could find online, the paths forward seem to be either flashing a modded bios somehow, or using a hardware programmator, or petitioning Lenovo (lol). Maybe I missed something?
Also here’s the bios dump I obtained with Intel ME tools: workupload - Are you a human? (cant attach here since I’m a new user).
