After further testing it seems that what i’ve described above is what’s really happening.
Fixed Voltage
Here’s what i did:
> Clear CMOS > load defaults > reboot
> Apply CPU Ratio to x42 (as i know this multiplier works with “Auto” voltage, so easier to test) fixed voltage of 1.350 - C-States and SpeedStep disabled, LLC Level 1
> Rebooted
Check with CPU-Z, i had a voltage of 1.224 - fixed voltage of 1.350 obviously ignored
Went back to bios and changed fixed voltage to auto
Check with CPU-Z again, i had the same voltage - 1.224
Set to fixed voltage again, and the voltage persists
That’s why it was locking on me because at x45 multiplier it just didn’t have enough voltage because of the “fallback” to auto voltage. With Offset voltage the behavior is the same, it still fallbacks to auto voltage.
