[Request] ASUS Vivobook unlocked BIOS

hi i recently bought a cheap and new laptop, ASUS Vivobook X413JA preinstalled with Windows 10. I can’t seem to install Windows 7 I tried USB boot multiple times and installing it thru my w10 system basically running w7setup.exe but always error it wont install, and with usb boot it freeze in “Starting windows” i tried for hours and it seems impossible. what i learned is I have to enable legacy/csm boot in BIOS but I cant find the option in bios. Tried to disable secure boot and fast boot, i did everything i cant see it :frowning: i tried to mod/flash bios with AfuWin64 and AMIBCP and/or amiflash, but when i made changes and apply them I get error 10.

Is it impossible? Should i return this crap?

Here is my current bios settings: easyupload"DOT"io/c6a16f (saved with AfuWin64 3.05.02)

i will pay your dinner with btc for the quickest and best help im going crazy here

EDIT by Fernando: Thread title customized and shortened

and my current bios driver: dlcdnets.asus"DOT"com/pub/ASUS/nb/X421JAY/ASUS_X421JAY_301_BIOS_Installer.exe

Hello, i see various string in ur bios referring to CSM, load the default values (Not Setup/Optimized), disable Secure boot, fast boot, quiet boot, save & reboot.
Witch model after all the X413 or the X421? Oh i see it uses shared bios file… but i see there is a new version 302 (2021/05/04) for ur X413JA
Get in bios setup again and this time search for CSM or Legacy, or if boots now from a standard Windows 7 x64 ISO USB install.
Windows 7 doesn’t have default support for NVMe interface if ur laptop uses a NVMe drive.

[GUIDE] How to get Win7 clean installed onto an NVMe SSD

@MeatWar :
thx for reply,

here is some info from speccy and hwmonitor/hwinfo
imgur"DOT"com/a/VwT5sCy

underneath the laptop it says "X413JA" and "EB478T" but screenshot says different. ill try your steps right now will post back in a few mins!

hi, I had version 302 before and tried downgrade and here I am. same results with 302. I tried load default settings and redid everything without luck. no csm feature =(

it boot with the usb but always gets stuck in "starting windows" like this: imgur"DOT"com/a/0RTh8ZU

here is my ssd speccy, looks like NVMe: imgur"DOT"com/a/h6H3rn7

and pics of my bios: imgur"DOT"com/a/uQ7OlJY

most important is CSM/legacy boot to run 32bit applications, w7 isnt important fyi

can we do this by modding/flashing bios? is it possible?

thx

Hi friend,
could you upload the Menu Tabs shown Photos so we ca see what are you seeing into your bios ?
The use this tool , execute it as Admin and upload the result file here :

https://www.mediafire.com/file/4s2lp3ig8…ools20h.7z/file

Let me know
regards

There…u got the help of BDMaster, a mod expert, if there is anything to do about the strings, is the man.
Remember, CSM boot support x86/x64 OS installations, OS x64 can run x86 apps.
And again u need Windows 7 x64 and the required NVMe support if ur laptop has NVMe, ur bios has it but not Windows 7.

EDIT: And it has…the Intel512 by ur bios menu photos, so follow the guide i linked.
EDIT: Revisited ur bios again with more time… im not so confident in ur problem getting resolved with all possible unlocks in bios edit, lets see…

thank you both

So your Bios is write protect …

Error 167: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access.
Please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable
Protected Range Registers.

FPT Operation Failed.

We have to find a way to rewrite back the bios mod …

ok can u help me? i have 50 usd ready

or better to return this laptop and get another one?

thx!

Hi friend, if do you want to make a donation , you can make to the site as i am a guest here llike you :wink:
I will try to help you and will follow you into the tests …
So i found the NVRAM variables to modifies to tests the Eeprom unlock :

0x38AC6 One Of: Flash Protection Range Registers (FPRR), VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x6D1, VarStore: 0x17, QuestionId: 0x76F, Size: 1, Min: 0x0, Max 0x1, Step: 0x0 {05 91 6D 11 6E 11 6F 07 17 00 D1 06 10 10 00 01 00}
0x38AD7 One Of Option: Disabled, Value (8 bit): 0x0 (default) {09 07 04 00 30 00 00} >> DISABLED by default
0x38ADE One Of Option: Enabled, Value (8 bit): 0x1 {09 07 03 00 00 00 01}
0x38AE5 End One Of {29 02}

0x45758 One Of: BIOS Lock, VarStoreInfo (VarOffset/VarName): 0x16, VarStore: 0x17, QuestionId: 0xC73, Size: 1, Min: 0x0, Max 0x1, Step: 0x0 {05 91 26 0B 27 0B 73 0C 17 00 16 00 10 10 00 01 00}
0x45769 Default: DefaultId: 0x0, Value (8 bit): 0x1 {5B 06 00 00 00 01}
0x4576F One Of Option: Disabled, Value (8 bit): 0x0 (default MFG) {09 07 04 00 20 00 00} >> it coud be disabled
0x45776 One Of Option: Enabled, Value (8 bit): 0x1 {09 07 03 00 00 00 01}
0x4577D End One Of {29 02}

So the you can use the AMIBCP version 5.02.0031 for Bios AMI APTIO V and look into the settings which we can modify to help you , here you go :

https://www.mediafire.com/file/od01oy8qd…simply.rar/file

Then unpack it and load by it the bios backup you made and just give a look to all options …

The next step is to use the RU Shell and modify the NVRAM variables to remove the locks and use the Intel Fpt tool , from IFR txt FPRR is disabled so you have to check and change only the
Bios lock , but it will be better to check both the variables …

Flash Protection Range Registers (FPRR) : 0x6D1
BIOS Lock : 0x16

There is the SPD Write Disable too, but give a look to them by Ru and then we continue.

You have to change the variables values and change them from 0x01 to 0x00 …

Here is RU Shell site to download it (there are many version, so if any doesn’t work well, use any different too) :

https://ruexe.blogspot.com/

Here is a Guide on how to use RU Shell (it’s easy so don’t worry) :

https://nstarke.github.io/0037-modifying…ing-ru-efi.html

https://casualhacking.io/blog/2019/6/2/d…-s-hardware-cpu

The GUID

Then after made the modify you have to test the unlocking and we can do by the tool i uploaded before or directly using the Fpt , making a bios backup and then
rewriting it back , so here is the version for your ME :

https://www.mediafire.com/file/jx3q0q765…/Fpt13.rar/file

Let me know
Regards

P.S. this is the first step to unlock your bios and show all settings and could change them …
