[Request] BIOS Unlock - Acer Predator PH317-54

Hello,

I am looking badly for a bios unlock on this laptop. I have seen others ask for one on this same model here but those never worked on mine in the past so I am asking for help.

Here is my bios backup file- https://www.sendspace.com/file/ef700p

and here is the vars -Download vars.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Much appreciated for the help in advance. I really want to be able to enable XMP on my ram and of course the locked bios won’t allow that.

You may use the tool but with the config file for PH317-54 from my repo. This will unlock bios without flashing memory.
https://github.com/Maxinator500/SREP-Patches/blob/master/Configs/PH317-54_Insyde_BiosUnlock.cfg

If you’d rather to install a modified bios instead, I can help.

Thanks!

should I rename your file to SREP_Config.cfg before putting it on the usb or can I leave it as it is?

I tried booting from a USB with the EFI folder in the USB and your cfg file there to but on boot its saying that it does not have a usb file to boot from when it reads the usb on startup?

It is needed.

PC should boot from EFI/Boot/bootx64. The file is not digitally signed, so you also need to disable Secure Boot.

need your help, your file worked but I think I disabled a few safeties in the bios and cleared tpm. Now the pc will not post or boot and a black screen. I know I goofed and I know better but this is the situation. I did obtain the acer bios 1.06 exe for this laptop stock. I also tried extracting it and putting the “BIOS_V106.exe” and also tried extracting it which is “BIOS_1.06.fd” along with everything else in the exe. I tried booting by holding FN+esc while powering on with the usb and these files formatted to fat32. It restarts the pc but the usb never lights up and the laptop just boots up with the keyboard lit, no post, no boot, screen black. Is there a way to get this flashed correctly back to stock on my own? I also tried a cmos reset with batteries unplugged but to no avail. Learned my lesson for sure. Worst case I guess is to buy a password free Bios chip and soldier on a new one but Id rather try an easier way before that.

Ty in advance.

Try with the bios file renamed to Vellfire_CMS.bin

Should i rename the .fd file or the full exe to that bin? When i unpack that exe it has the fd file and a lot of others in there but there is no bin inside

Rename the fd

Ok i did that, renamed the fd and put on a fat32 formatted usb by itself, plugged it into the laptop, held down function+escape (hoping this is correct method on a predator)and powered on. The pc keyboard lights up, then about 30 seconds later the laptop restarts with the keyboard lit again and just sits i never see the light on the usb come on to indicate reading. Do all the other files in the stock bios exe need to be put on that usb too?

Im really perplexed how this happened since all i did was change 3 settings in the bios unlock, i set ram speed to 3200 which is my rams speed and disabled 2 security settings that would just allow other options to be unlocked . This is just weird that it wont even post now and the screen staying black.

Then there is no recovery feature.

No. Only the renamed fd needed.

This is the reason. Did you do this via setting XMP profile or?

I did it via memory settings, set profile to custom and then set 3200.

Ive done this on my desktops many times with no issues.Guess Acer laptops are touchy.
Maybe this .fd needs to be named something else?

My model is also specifically a Acer Predator ph317-54-70Z5. would the dumps I uploaded here offer any helpful info to you? I feel like the FD might be named something else. I did some searching and had seen a ph317-52 needed to have a DH53FX64.fd. Maybe this laptop needs a similar type of name?

Im a dork i have dyslexia. I mistakenly named the file vellfire_csm.bin. (Csm was backwards) When I did it as you said “vellfire_cms.bin” I booted up and it read the usb! The usb blinked about 5m and then the pc shut off. After that it shut down. I then had to turn it back on and the laptop was just blinking keyboard lights every so often until the predator logo returned “post”.

My pc is restored. I learned a valuable lesson here and I really thank you for helping me. You sir are a wizard of the highest degree!

Looks like they are touchy. Just found out this also happened to some Acer Nitro.

I have saved this knowledge and the usb in case it ever happens again.
