Hello,
Mostly wanted to inquire about the viability of modifying the BIOS to remove gen 1 AGESA and replace it with gen 2. My understanding is that this server has a 16mb ROM and thus only supports 1 generation of EPYC processors at a time… but technically this code COULD be replaced to instead support Gen 2 EPYC without needing to move to the newer server models. I believe ASUS did something similar with a socked BIOS chip replacement that they offered to their customers.
Any insights on this in the Dell world would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: It appears the motherboard has a 25l3233f CMOS chip which documentation says has 32mb of storage. That should be enough for both gen 1 and gen 2 EPYC AGESA code I’d imagine as IPMI firmware is housed elsewhere to my knowledge. May try dropping in a gen 2 chip and see what happens.
