[Request] Dell Precision 7530 Advanced BIOS options

Hi! I was wondering if there were any hidden advanced options within the Dell Precision 7530’s BIOS that could be unlocked via BIOS modding. Idk what brand the BIOS is as it doesn’t say (it’s one of those BIOS interfaces with a mouse cursor and looks like Windows Basic theme meets Silver Luna theme). Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello.
I like the description you gave.

Its brand is Aptio 5. There are a lot of hidden options.
I don’t know if its unlockable until I try.

Glad you liked it, lol. That is the best way to describe this BIOS interface, lol. I was starting to think that! The Dell Inspiron 3847 Desktop that I have has an American MegaTrends BIOS, which is closely associated with Aptio (correct me if any of this is wrong), so it makes sense the Precision 7530’s BIOS is also based upon Aptio as well!

Hopefully, those hidden options are unlockable! I want to see what all is there.

Let’s try a simple read and write test before spending time editing binary.
This archive must have everything you need.
Let me know how it goes.

Do you want me to flash those files I presume?

A stock bios file will be generated if you click READ batch.
And if you click WRITE batch, an attempt to flash the same stock file will be made.

Error 167: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access.

This is the error I get when running 2. WRITE.bat, included within the archive you gave me.

Have you done the steps from READ batch?

I did. It tells me to restart, boot from the USB drive, and enter these commands in: setup_var3 0xA1E 0x0 and setup_var3 0x10D8 0x0

However, it tells me it can’t find setup_var3 or whatever.

Sorry. My bad, forgot an underscore. It should be setup_var_3.

Ah, ok. I’ll try that in a bit.

Error 167: The Protected Range Registers are currently set by the BIOS, preventing flash access. Please contact the target system BIOS vendor for an option to disable Protected Range Registers.

FPT Operation Failed.

I did the setup_var_3 command and both worked this time, but I still get that error from WRITE.bat

This means I can’t manage to disable write protection.

That’s what I figured. So does this mean we can’t flash a modded BIOS, then?

Right. :slightly_frowning_face:

Rats! Oh well I guess. I’ve been eyeballing a Precision 7720 for Win7 support. This one supports 64GB of ram as well as having the three drive slots of my 7530. Only thing I’m not sure of is if the BIOS has the option to change the touchpad from I2C touchpad mode to PS/2 touchpad mode.
