I have a bricked desktop that is a pre-production Intel engineering sample (soldered Core Ultra / Arrow Lake-class SoC). After a BIOS flash it no longer POSTs: power LED + fans spin for a few seconds, no display, then it powers off. I have verified SPI dumps and have exhausted the usual recovery routes. I believe the CSME/ME region is corrupted and that the platform is engineering-signed, so I’m looking for (a) confirmation of the diagnosis and (b) any path to a matching engineering-signed image, or an identical engineering board donor.
Hardware
Physical label: Lenovo LOQ Tower 17IRR9
Firmware-reported model (when it worked): 17IRB8 (SMBIOS string did not match the label)
Note: retail 17IRR9 / 17IRB8 are Raptor Lake (CSME 16.x), but this unit’s firmware is CSME 19.0 — i.e. a newer Meteor/Arrow Lake-class SoC. The physical unit is NOT the retail Raptor Lake machine.
CPU: soldered BGA, no readable marking (consistent with an engineering sample)
Board lot codes (silkscreen): SB32D13821 / BSSB21D13821W1Zs47d0015
SPI flash: single chip, 32 MB (33,554,432 bytes)
BIOS Guard / Platform Identity in retail capsule: RAPTORLAKE (confirms retail package is a different platform than this board)
What happened
The working OS reported the machine as 17IRB8, so I flashed the retail 17IRB8 BIOS. The system then stopped POSTing (fans on, no video, off after a few seconds). I now believe the actual silicon is a pre-production CSME-19 engineering sample, so the retail flash was the wrong platform.
ME Analyzer findings (from a verified 32 MB dump)
Family: CSE ME
Version: 19.0.0.1706
Release: Pre-Production
SKU: Consumer H
File System State: Error
PMC: 1900.21.00.1046 (Pre-Production), plus 545.27.00.16736 (Pre-Production, Engineering)
PCHC: 1900.21.0.1003 (Pre-Production)
PHY: 13.0.1.7093 and 19.2.0.7014 (Engineering)
Errors reported:
Unknown CSME 19.0 RSA Public Key
Unknown PMC / PCHC / PHY RSA Public Key (all components)
Unsupported Intel Engine, Graphics and/or Independent firmware
BPDT partition Unknown (0x24F000 - 0x4A6000) overlaps with EFWS/DCOD/PCOD/ACOD/IOMP/NPHY/SSPH/PMCS/SOCC
Skipped MFS partition at 0x4A6FF0, unrecognizable format
Skipped EFS partition at 0x541FF0, unrecognizable format
Data in Engine/Graphics region padding, possible data corruption
So the ME region appears structurally corrupted (MFS/EFS unrecognizable, overlapping BPDT), and every component is signed with keys ME Analyzer does not recognize (engineering/internal keys).
What I have already tried
Clear CMOS + jumper-based crisis recovery from USB with the correct-model retail BIOS — no change.
CH341A full dump x2, verified same 32 MB size (reads are reliable).
MFIT (Intel Modular Flash Image Tool) 19.0.0.1854 — decomposed my own dump and rebuilt it unchanged. Build succeeded, but ME Analyzer shows the identical corruption in the rebuilt image (so the damage is in signed ME content, not just layout). MFIT also warned: Selected BtG profile is Verified and Measured Boot and an SSPH MEU 19.10 vs layout 19.0 mismatch.
Extracted the retail Lenovo capsule (AMI PFAT) with BIOSUtilities — it contains BIOS/FSP/NVRAM only, no CSE/ME region, and all regions are tagged RAPTORLAKE. So the vendor BIOS can’t donate an ME, and it’s the wrong platform anyway.
Confirmed there is no backup/older ME on the chip (A-B redundancy covers BIOS regions only; ME Analyzer finds a single, corrupted CSE instance).
My questions for the forum
Does this look like a pre-production CSME-19 board that requires an engineering-signed image (i.e., not recoverable with any public/production CSME 19 ME)? Please confirm or correct my reasoning.
Is there any legitimate route to a matching pre-production / engineering-signed CSME 19.0 image for this SoC, or does this strictly require the hardware’s source (Intel / ODM / lab)?
Does anyone have an identical engineering board (same engineering keys / CSME 19.0 pre-production) whose full SPI dump could serve as a donor, with my own board data (serial/UUID/MAC) ported in?
Anything else worth checking in the dump before I conclude it needs the source’s firmware?
I can attach the verified 32 MB dump and full ME Analyzer / MFIT logs. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
