Hi team,
I’m looking for a BIOS Mod which includes the latest Intel Microcode Updates (i.e Spectre/Meltdown) for this Motherboard: https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/…-EXTREME-rev-10
Not sure if relevant, but my CPU is a Xeon X5650. I’m currently on the latest BIOS supplied by Gigabyte, F13S. I found a BIOS over on TPU however APPARENTLY the Microcode patches weren’t very well done.
Something similar to this one provided by @Lost_N_BIOS but for the GA-EX58-EXTREME Mobo would be awesome: GA-EX58-UD5 (Rev. 1.0) F13 Invalid Bios Image after add new microcode
Many thanks!
Still looking for some help one this one
@Stargirl - Hey, I can help!
Few questions first. Do you only want updated CPU microcode, or do you also want updated Intel RST (if you don’t use RAID, then this doesn’t matter)?
If you do want updated RST, do you also use the j.micron SATA ports, or not?
Do you want me to mod F13s or F13u?
Hi Lost_N_BIOS,
I’m only looking for a CPU Microcode update. I don’t use RAID so an updated RST will be irrelevant in my case. Usage of F13s for the mod would be great.
Question (which I’m not sure if you can answer), will I need to downgrade my BIOS from F13S in prior to flashing the modded F13S?
Many thanks for your help on this one!
OK, will do microcode update only. I’m not sure about your question, you are on F13S now (I assume, correct?), so why would you need to “Downgrade” To F13S? I mean that is same/same, so not a downgrade, confused by what you mean.
In general though, it doesn’t matter what BIOS you are on, unless there is a Qflash update, you can flash any BIOS you want via Qflash.
Sometimes there is Qflash update, like example if on F1, and F4 has new Qflash, you would have to flash F4 or any above that via @BIOS or SPIFlash, but aside from that if no Qflash change you can flash from F1 to F50 and no issue.
You’re welcome! I will edit in mod BIOS for you soon, I’ll tag you to let you know
* Edit @Stargirl - Flash via Qflash from FAT32 USB - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…455182894355118
After BIOS flash, enter BIOS, load optimized defaults and then save and reboot back to BIOS to make all other changes you want.
It’s looking good on MC Extractor, I’ll flash it tonight & see how it goes!
Many thanks for your help, greatly appreciated
You’re welcome @Stargirl - yes, let me know how it goes! I triple checked, so should be OK, Qflash checksum = E000
So far so good! Flashed your Modded F13S over my Stock F13S & reloaded defaults. All seems to be well & good with my overclock! I’ll report back once more in a week, if all is good I’ll organize a gift card in exchange for your help
Thanks a million!!
Great to hear all is OK @Stargirl Sometimes I can’t remember for certain every single edit oddity we need to keep in mind during modifications, since it’s been so long these boards been around, good to hear my notes on X58 edit and my double check skills are still OK
Yes, please let me know how stability is for you once you’ve tested for a while, thanks and you’re welcome!
