[Request] Help in adding microcode to a Phoenix Bios

Hello everyone, this is my first post in the Win-Raid forum. i’ve got a old laptop here that i wanted to upgrade it’s cpu, but my issue is that the bios doesn’t have the appropriate microcode for the cpu to be detected. After searching for a while i couldn’t find a appropriate guide for injecting new microcodes in the bios file, i was only able to find for UEFI bioses and mine is Legacy, if someone can point out a tutorial on how to do it or modify the bios for me i would appreciate it.

The laptop specs are:
Model: FIC VY240
Chipset: ViA VN896
Old CPU: Core 2 Duo T5800
CPU to upgrade: Core 2 Duo T8300
4GB of ram DDR2
Bios: Phoenix and the file has 516kb in size

I was able to verify that my bios didn’t have the correct microcode using MCExtractor, sorry if my english is a bit broken, it’s not my native language.

@Rapadura
Welcome to the Win-Raid Forum!
It is possible to extract the content of your device’s Phoenix BIOS by using andyp’s Phoenixtool v2.73. >Here< is the link to the related MyDigitalLife thread, but I am not able to help you regarding your request.
Good luck!

Thanks i will take a look at this tool.

@Fernando
I know that this may sound dumb but after more days checking, i noticied that the bios already had the microcode for the T8300 to work, so i flashed the bios one more time and same issue, but after removing the processor a couple of times and inserting it, it worked!

what i don’t understand is that the bios for some reason eats 1gb of ram and i only have 2,75gb to use since IGP uses 256mb shared video memory and the chipset supports up to 4gb of ram. Temperatures are great compared to the old T5800, at stress it gets at max 51°C compared to almost 70°C, i used the same thermal paste and at idle it’s around 30°C compared to 50°C.

Thanks for your feedback. It is fine, that you now can use the upgraded CPU.
Regarding the loss of more than 1 GB RAM capacity please read >this<.

Thanks Fernando for linking that Microsoft page, it makes sense now but my CPU and OS are 64Bit, is this the same principle as on the first gen Mac Mini with 32Bit EFI Firmware?
