[Request] HP Z400 Workstation BIOS needs to be Unlocked

Yeah I know about the other Xeons as well

I don’t know how to edit these bioses (at least according to the tools I’ve always used to edit any bios).

Hello magicman,

here my analyse:
0. It’s a HP COMPAQ Z400 WORKSTATION → you know that
1. looks like AMI based, but no AMI-Tool could read it
2. dumped BIOS date is 01/30/09 … 30. january 2009
3. HP BIOS 3.61 date is 11/10/09 … 10. november 2009
4. I could see the same 5 Intel microcodes in both BIOS files

***

what do you wanna do with the bios?

Best regards, MiMo

If you can unlock the Advanced section completely! Also thanks for the response!

I don’t know anything about HP bios. I’m also totally “blind” like Lost_N_BIOS.

If you would find a tutorial which shows the data to change, it could be possible.

I only found these HP codes:

For ASUS? Board, push buttons inside BIOS:
- [Ctrl]+[F1] → expert mode
- [Ctrl]+[F10] → extended BIOS
- [Ctrl]+[C]+[F10] → FAN-control

For Phoenix BIOS, push buttons before start into BIOS (watch YT video):
- [Ctrl]+[F10] and short after that [Ctrl]+[F11] → extended BIOS … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSi0Xc4RcUc

Just tried it no go!

Couldn’t find anything only talk on threads they were able to do it!
-----------------------

Did find a stock oem tool though https://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_BCU.html

It’s safe to say this BIOS is a no go! I wanted to thank everyone who attempted to help me with it though I appreciate it greatly!

With BCU-tool you may get & set BIOS values.
I didn’t try to install it on my PC, but it runs in command console.
I got this error, because my PC is not a supported HP system.

1
2

<ERROR msg="System not supported. Unable to connect to HP WMI namespace: 'root\HP'/>
<ERROR msg="BCU return value" real="23" translated="23" />

So you could try it by yourself:
- take 7-zip to extract the files of BCU into a folder (name it BCU) ... or install the sp100599.exe in Windows on the HP Z400
- run command console (cmd) and go to your BCU folder or where it was installed
- put in: BiosConfigUtility64 /Get:"Config.txt" to save the BIOS configuration to this file
- take a look inside and post it here, if it looks good

@magicman - Sorry Maybe advice above will help you at least change some things??

@MiesMosel - Ran it and here’s the text

Config.txt (5.73 KB)

Help?

ya im on the same level I’ve sniffed this bios up and down I have no idea what it even is the only thing I’ve found is a rom.bin file

Hello magicman,

sorry for the long delay!

Thanx for the config-file.

It’s an old rig with only SATA-300 Gbps (SATA-II), but also RAID support.
I couldn’t find anything, that would be interesting to change in the config.
It’s an OEM device by HP - I have no idea, what you’re missing.

What do you wanna do with that Z400?
What do you wanna find in advanced options?

Best regards, MiMo

Memory timing options and Cstate options if you can enable them

Anyway to convert to uefi?

Just get a new CPU either a Intel Xeon X5690 or Xeon w3690! Problem solved!

SetFSB also works most likely if you use low frequency ram 1033 and move the BCLK up! SetFSB is free on MajorGeeks or a quick google search! Working PLL CV183APAG!

Note: @Lost_N_BIOS

It’s Insyde BIOS.
