So I have a working laptop on Windows 7 with 8th gen Kaby Lake. Modded Intel GPU drivers from 6th work perfectly (Intel HD 520 –> Intel UHD 620), with NVIDIA GTX 1050 dGPU with Optimus.
I had issues with NVIDIA dGPU stopping an resuming rendering every few minutes and after a long search and testing session I’ve found out that not having Intel Thermal driver installed fixes this. I had a random driver, which I thing was designed for a very different Gen of CPU/Motherboard, it installed flawless in device manager, but caused the issue with the dGPU.
I thought maybe if I install the 6th Gen version of this there won’t be problems anymore, but I really can’t find it, Intel Driver download website is a mess.
hardware IDs: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1903, ACPI\INT3400
also what can happen if I don’t install this driver at all?
Thanks in advance!

So I tried various 8.1.x Windows 7 driver versions, but all of them give me issue I have (the dGPU not rendering anymore after a few minutes and then rendering again after a few minutes and so on). The 8.1.x versions only support 5th gen Intel (so probably doesn’t communicate well with 8th gen so that it throws an error which disables dGPU rendering) and is the latest version that supports Windows 7. The 8.3.x versions support 8th gen Intel I have, but do not exist for Windows 7. When modding inf to add windows 7 support, the driver won’t work. I read about it and It needs some specific kernel information, which is only from Windows 10 available, so no way to port it to Windows 7.
So I gave up driver installation, I let it as unknown devive and disable it to remove any prompts on startup. My laptop works with no issues, the CPU and GPU get cooled as needed and the fans work as supposed to according to the correctly reported temperatures.
I still need to test if I will still get black screen at some point if the dGPU stays enabled at all times. If it won’t, then I will have to let it disabled by default and only enable it when I need it (e.g. playing demanding games), then disable it again.
If anyone has any suggestions, I am still open to testing.
