So I have a Lenovo M90Q GEN 3, which I would like to install a processor from the 13th or maybe 14th generation.
I have tried installing a 13500 and a 14500, and the computer as expected, does not boot, it shuts down immediately.
I have been told that the bios needs to be modified in some way so that it can unlock and use these processors, but I am not sure of the process and if anyone has done it before for this computer.
According to what they say, the Gen 4 motherboard (for the 13th gen) is exactly the same as the Gen 3 (I don’t know for sure since I read it in several places)
Can anyone help me with this? I have reinstalled the 12500 and now it is working correctly, but I have the 13500 and 14500 in the box that I could install.
Its a common well know type of request…
Lenovo takes good care of their marketing assets and generations… i wont say to give up on it, but i can almost assure you that no bios mod will unlock it and probably no bios locks present besides some Wifi cards or similar, its usually hardware design lock of the system board by Lenovo… they are here to sell “generations” not to prolong them.
It has been and still you can find a lot of this requests across several Lenovo systems gen’s, a very few machines of older generations were a bit easier…but not new ones.
What Intel states as support doesnt apply to OEM’s and their selling strategies, they sell as they want with or without restrictions, period.
Anyway just my POV and you should wait for other users contribuition, good luck.
Does this mean that it won’t be possible to install a 13500 or 14500 in this device?
If the motherboard is confirmed to be exactly the same as GEN 4, why wouldn’t it be possible to install the BIOS from it and thus be compatible with 13500?
I know that Lenovo limits things quite a bit (it seems that in the Gen 3 BIOS there are GEN 13 microcode headers)
I thought that upgrading the processor to a new generation (knowing that the Gen 3 chipset is compatible with 12-13-14 gen) would be easier, I hope I can achieve it somehow.
