Hello,
could you please unlock the MSI B250m Pro VDH bios to overclock an i5 7600k?
Thank you very much!
This is not possible due to chipset, already tried I think on a few B1/2xx boards. Can you see OC section of the BIOS? If yes, show me top to bottom contents
Yes I can see the OC section in BIOS but can’t change the cpu ratio value to anything bigger than 4.2 GHZ, which is the Turbo Boost frequency of the cpu. Already tried disabling Turbo Boost.
The image is attached to that post in a zip folder.
Thank you for your help!

In the OC section I selected “OC Explore mode” and I set it to Expert, finding some other contents. I attached a screenshot of that section with those new contents, hoping It’s useful.
Another time, thank you for your help!

Since you can already set CPU ratio, there would never have been anything to mod here… I assumed you could not see/set this, so I thought maybe I could make visible for you, but I doubted from past attempts it would help
Here is info about this and your non-Z board, from the creator of Throttlestop - https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threa…o-boost.258042/
It’s not possible to set more multi than Intel stock value unless you have a Z board, this is chipset limitation.
Summary = You need Z170-Z270 for your CPU, otherwise 4.2Ghz is max you can apply
Ah, so I can’t on that chipset at all. Alright, I think I’ll go for a Z-motherboard or a newer socket. Thanks for your help!
@Lock_Unlock - Yes, Intel wanted to force users to get Z boards for K CPU’s. Maybe sell this board + CPU separately and get LGA1200.
There is cheap 4C/8T i3 CPU’s around $110, and i5’s 6C/12T for $167h, unlocked ones start around $280 (All these are Amazon prices, cheaper for any of these on ebay new, and for sure used)
Boards aren’t too bad either, but same as this system, if you get K CPU, get a Z490 board
Yes I agree with you, maybe I can buy something like an i5 10600k with a Z series motherboard.
Thank you very much for your help!
@Lock_Unlock - You’re welcome! Sorry I couldn’t really help with BIOS here But yes, sounds good, or even non-Z board and cheaper CPU, or cheap CPU for now and Z board.
Even the cheap i3 CPU’s are 4.4Ghz w/ turbo, you can’t beat that for $100. And the i5’s turbo to 4.6/4.8, so 4.6Ghz and 6C/12T for 170is is a good deal for a CPU
That’s what I picked up, a fresh OEM system pulled for replacement i5-10400F on the cheap + $150 Z490 board. I wanted 10600k, but couldn’t wait to have another extra $100 to spare
Maybe later, when next round of CPU’s come out then those will drop in price and I’ll grab a used 10600k
Yeah that’s a good idea an i5 10400f with a z490 motherboard to save some moneys: I think also to wait for the new gen of Intel cpu so prices of 10600k will drop a bit, or maybe go directly on an 11th gen cpu.
Let’s see what Intel will do with the new series of cpu!
Also thank you for your help and don’t worry, you’re doing a great work with BIOS mods and anyhow I think it’s better to upgrade to z490 and go with a newer cpu.
