@Koekieezz Thanks so much that’s awesome. I quickly reprogrammed the spare motherboard and bench tested with both chips reprogrammed and it booted fine and reset the CMOS. Then did it again with an OLD NVME drive in a converter board in the Mini-PCIE-SATA/PCIEx1 slot and it found the NVME drive as wanted.
Again many thanks.
I will post a few links to the generic 4MB NVME upgrade at a later time, as others may find that useful without having to go the full custom mods.
A few things I noticed…
-
At the moment nobody would know that it is modded (UNLESS THEY KNEW WHAT TO LOOK FOR) as there is no sign/record of that as version number not changed.
-
I don’t need but wondering if that’s possible or causes a problem?
-
Also is the recoverable BIOS in the 8MB chip also going to give me the new changes or does it revert to the standard BIOS during that process? Is it possible to fix that at all if not available.
-
If I only programmed the 4MB chip how would that affect the above in any way?
-
Is loading the defaults any more risky now.
-
I also noticed (again) that the BIOS settings can write/save BIOS configs to a named file so I was wondering if that may be a reason there where many differences in the 8MB file, also? But you never broached why the 8MB dumps where so different.
-
Is there tutorial anywhere that might help me do/try NVME mods myself? I have done CPU microfile updates before (to allow newer CPUs) many years back.
-
This does not seem correct something seems amiss. Can you explain further?
OROM Intel RST for SATA - 11.6.0.1624 → 13.1.0.2126
OROM Intel RST for SATA - 11.6.0.1702 → 13.1.0.2126
OROM Intel Boot Agent GE - 1.3.76 → 1.5.62
OROM Intel Boot Agent GE - 1.3.76 → 1.5.90
I will do the other 3 motherboards tomorrow and confirm they went OK or not.
Again Many Thanks, Rod.
@roddines to abswer it in order:
- IDK What problem do you meant
- What do you mean with 8Mb recoverable bios? Do you mean if you can flash the .BIO file to the 8Mb chip? Well yes you can, but it wont work. See, intel have its own compression method and the .BIO is not the complete bios as per se, the .BIO would be the source material, the bios updater parses it, and applies the eeprom update.
- flashing the 4Mb bios only might be fine, but you should check/hex diffing if the start of the 4Mb Modded bios is the same as tge 4Mb unmodded bios. If it’s the same, then it should be fine.
- Loading defaults should be fine, test it on your own.
- I didn’t take a look at the 8Mb dumps that much, but what i could say is that each 8Mb bios dumps have its own Nvram configured values, so it might be the similiar but not always same as in 1:1 same.
- It’s easy, obtain 2 full dumps, open the 4Mb bios in Hex Editor like HxD, select all, copy, then open the 8Mb bios into the hex editor, go to the very bottom, and click on the right most part of the bios (0x0F), then paste insert, now you have both 8Mb + 4Mb biis combined, save that edited 8Mb bios, then use uefitool 0.25.0 or MMTool if you have access to, to insert the NvmExpressDxe module from this forum. Then save it, and after you save it, split back by remembering which was the start address of the 4Mb bios, and make a new copy of it. I used intel fit since i update the ME Firmware, so when i built it, it will results on split 8Mb + 4Mb part and tge standalone 12Mb complete bios.
- What i’ve wrote before was because i updated the Efi and Orom module. Test it out for both LAN and see if both works under UEFI and Legacy, if it does, then it should be complete.
@Koekieezz The other MBs all worked great also. Many Thanks.
I was confused while I wrote some of those questions as there were two EEPROM I fell into the trap of thinking that there was a backup EEPROM for a minute or two (possibly enabling a read from one and a write to the other during a recovery process). But now I realise the recovery only allows an automated process for a BIOS file from the root of a USB drive to be installed over the existing EEPROM BIOS and written over the EEPROM so it looses the “modded” NVME driver and new updated drivers that have been ICP programmed from your modds.
All good. Thx
