Hello everyone! I recently purchased a Tesla M40 GPU, as I cannot afford anything else in this market.
I have been attempting to get it to work in my system to no avail; I originally tried installing the card in the Dell which ended up resulting in a Code 12 resource allocation error (which to my understanding is due to the bios not allocating BAR space for the card correctly). I naively purchase an Asus Q87-M board thinking it would have above 4g decoding but to my surprise it appears that it doesn’t. Regardless, I tried changing every other setting in the bios that I could to try and get the card to work (setting pcie to gen 3, disabling audio, etc), but even with the Q87 board I still get the resource allocation error, likely for the same exact reason.
I would imagine there’s an option for it in the bios but its just locked away considering the z97 board from Asus does have it unlocked from the factory (logic being same socket/manufacture; apologies if this is incorrect).
I knew going the Tesla route there would be a bit of DIY within windows aswell as cooling etc, I’m just not experienced what so ever modifying bios and I don’t want to screw anything up. I do have lot of experience within Windows (and other OSes) w/ python and JavaScript on a hobby level so I’m not too shy about attempting any of this myself as long as I have somewhat beginner friendly instructions.
Anyways, I don’t wanna ramble on too much
The latest version of the Q87 bios can be found by searching “Asus Q87-M Bios Update” on Google, unfortunately I am unable to post links
Thanks in advance <3

@jqmarsh Welkcome to the Win-RAID Forum!
You can post links, but you may have to insert 1-2 spaces.
Good luck!

This motherboard has 32 bit pci slots. Only 64-bit PCI, PCI-X and PCI Express buses support 64-bit decoding.
So this motherboard don’t support it.
Also you must disable CSM to access the above 4G decoding option and i doubt a motherboard from that era that have code to enable and disable csm even if someone mode the bios to enable the above 4 g decoding option.
I DO have the option to disable CSM, and I HAVE IT disabled. There is another ASUS board from this same exact generation, same socket, etc that I have confirmed does have the option so I’d be surprised if that wasn’t possible (the ASUS z97 board).
I actually see nothing online regarding my motherboard that suggest what you said is true in any capacity; this motherboard should have the possiblity to support above 4g decoding. I mean this is a Haswell system, its not like the last update was 20 years ago, it only recently stopped receiving updates in 2020. You have an ASRock z97 which is from the same era, so you should know what you said is untrue.
@jqmarsh
As you see the motherboard Q87M-E-ASUS-3801 don’t have above 4g decoding in the bios so there exist nothing to mod.
Your motherboard is the left picture and an asrock z97 that include the above 4g decoding is right.
All the motherboards that support this 4g decoding have this option there.
Good luck with your search and keep in mind that i don’t like to spend my time with untrue things.
What I meant by that was you saying a motherboard from that era is unlikely to support CSM when you have a motherboard from the same era that does indeed have CSM
