Request, Unlocking MSI laptop

it doesn’t matter, just don’t risk unlock/mod ,no need
on this config --no get any boost

only good idea is unlock TDP ,but need good temperatures

my post ,IMON map --this bypass TDP "not limit"
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threa…0/#post-1992124

better first test your config ,msi kombustor // hwinfo sensor --check results
kombustor cpu burner "4-6" cores only + gpu stress --check temperatures
and VR ?? test defauts only ,…,I think it’s locked too "U cpu"

any problem ,.30s power button when nb run "cmos reset" bios full defaults
--------------------------------

real is 112.5A 8cores -100w cpu 4.5ghz ,my is similar
but 100w load need LQ metal + lot mods -90C max

--------------------------------

if you have a performance problem ,is the problem elsewhere

ram oc / bclk --not help
check hwinfo -sensor "cpu limit reason" or send LOG from games // normal stress
for more info  --better setup

@Dzonomanolo - See what I said at post #11 in regards to answer for your first question at post #12 - What you said will = brick due to what I said at post #11
So, we cannot make that setting visible, but we can adjust the applied value directly via grub/setup_var or RU method, and if it’s working on that board then the changed value will be applied.
Ram timings can also be set manually in this same manner. Please make a list of all settings you want to change, and what you want them changed to, exactly how I asked in post #11, then I will show you the way to change them all
These will remain changed after reboot, unless they are unstable and the BIOS auto-recovers them to default (like failed overclock, ie your applied timings may not be stable, maybe need looser, or more voltages applied somewhere etc)

@NeXt3R - Please use edit instead of making multiple posts in a row, thanks

sorry

exist to many option for his problem ,I wrote fast

,.,i think unlock no need --only brick NB ,test more setting only "stable numbers" other --hw limit

@Lost_N_BIOS Sorry for not responding. I was very busy.

I would like to ask you for setting Enable Root Port PEG:0:1:0 under system agent peg port configuration from default auto.

Or can I just edit original bios from msi site with amibcp and flash it using bios update feature after entering bios?

@Dzonomanolo - That is already enabled/Auto, if not and Auto = disabled, then does not apply to your system. Here is my main/major warning to unlocked BIOS laptop users below, it looks like you are trying to head into area where “There be monsters here”

*** WARNING - To ANYONE with laptop and unlocked BIOS!!! ***
DO NOT try to enable this graphics card or disable that card, switch cards etc. Otherwise you will end up with no display output (ie black screen) and no way to recover except by blind flash or with flash programmer.
You can change graphics related settings, like changing memory sizes, or core speeds etc, just don’t try to disable one card or change which is main etc.

Additionally, be very careful when trying to undervolt CPU, you can leave BIOS unbootable due to CPU voltage too low (Sometimes even 0.05 is too much)

And no, I do not think you can flash in mod BIOS on this laptop using stock update method. Additionally you cannot mod this BIOS in the way you asked - it will = BRICK
See my warning again at post #11 - This directly applies to your question about mod BIOS/AMIBCP/Flashing Mod BIOS - Request, Unlocking MSI laptop

You can ONLY change this setting via grub/setup_var edit, or RU method, to change the current applied value in NVRAM ONLY.
To do that, use this guide for grub/setup_var, you can start at step #6, I’ve done 1-5 for you and info is below

Rename .efi file to >> Shell.efi

Enable Root Port (PEG 0:1:0) variable to change >> 0x850

So at grub prompt, you will type the following and then hit enter (case sensitive)
setup_var 0x850 0x01

Or you can use RU method - Go to section 2.2 and make bootable USB with RU program, then read 2.3-2.5
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/…-issues.812372/

When using RU method, you go to Setup in GUID EC87D643-EBA4-4BB5-A1E5-3F3E36B20DA9
Then go to offset 0x850 and change 02 to 01

@Lost_N_BIOS Thank you.

About modding stock bios from msi site, I have just asked to be sure it will fail.
About your warning - The mod I have asked you is for a different problem. I am trying to rise Power limit of my gtx1050 (s***-Q) but unfortunately TDP TWEAKER from nbr forum does not work with my dumped max-q vbios, so I eddited my dumped VBIOS by hand with HxD based on the another gtx1050 max-P vbios that had compatibile vbios with TDP tweaker. So i could follow some paterns in HxD. Than I have flashed it with programer but after clean instal of drivers it keeps getting me error 43. I red that sometimes on MSI LAPTOPS, EC fails to re-enable the PEG port because the "Auto" setting acts as "disabled" when the EC disconnects the port by acting as a MUX switch to re-route the iGPU to being the main display. So I wanted TO enable root port to later check again the modde vbios. But this settings was hidden even after key combo was used inside the bios to unhide some settings.

Anyway I followed your advice with RU and I was able to change the value and it was saved, so BIG thank you for guidance. I will later check agin my modded vbios.

@Dzonomanolo - You’re welcome! Yes, any BIOS you edit, dump or stock, if you edit anything covered by Boot Guard this will = brick (This means any normal menu edits, BIOS settings type changes etc)

I posted that warning for you to see, due to you asked about changing display settings values. The item you mentioned does not have anything to do with TDP or graphics card TDP (That would need vBIOS edit, as you mentioned)
Error 43 for AMD vBIOS which I am familiar with editing, means the driver is signed and wont work with mod BIOS. So us AMD users have a tool to patch the drivers, probably something similar is already made for Nvidia too.
But, it could also be that simply means vBIOS mod failed and drivers can’t load too, I am not sure.

Ohh, so yes, then, that setting may help you with the driver or EC thing you mentioned, if this is a commonly known issue. You’re welcome, hopefully it helps!
So, go ahead and use above mentioned info to change it to Enabled instead of Auto, sounds like you did and all OK at least, glad to hear you still have display!

On TDP tweaker, you may just need to use a different version, sometimes 1.21 does not work for some BIOS then use 1.20 for example

I have also now realised that stock vbios had different checksum than modded one and I know modded vbios with hxd to match checksum and will later at night try to flash it with programer and hopefully it will work now. If not I will be looking further on resolving issue with modded vbios.

Best regards

@Dzonomanolo - Yes, if you mod vBIOS, you would have to correct checksum usually! It would not be same checksum value as original, so don’t copy original checksum that only applies to the non-edited vBIOS
Send me original vBIOS + your edited vBIOS, if you need checksum corrected and don’t know how to fix it yourself

@Lost_N_BIOS

Just want to inform you that I manage to correct checksum in GTX1050 MAX-Q VBIOS. Flashed with programer. Of course firstly I have enabled PEG 0:1:0 Root Port, as to overcome possible issue that I was writting about ealier.
And bum no error 43 in Device manager. As for TDP mod, I don’t have much better scores in for example banchmarks like FS (around +100-150 points in graphics score, mostly limited by max 1V on the gpu curve) but in games card is now not downclocking from around 1950MHz (after oc) to around 1700-1800MHz. After gaming session it sits now at 1911 for long time gaming.
As for power hwinfo showed before tdp mod max usage of 26W ( which was max as these max-Q gtx1050 was 25W TDP card) now it was at 37W, mostly sitting at 32-35W range.

Best regards.

gpu x2 "nvvd in hwinfo" numbers -75w real ,and mod max q – burn VRm on gpu "bad hw for mod"

edit small help
90w AC ? -15w cpu -50w gpu 20w system
possible get more limit --bad performance in full load // any mod ,.,.use all time recharge to 100./."battery master ,.,.dragon center"
better for full performance/stability

lot msi gt1050 -75w defauts ,but no this series ,gaming GF …GE and similar gaming"" nb "VRM ?? OK 75w"
AC upgrade ?? not help ,need mod EC FW
good luck

Gpu tops with 37W
System with sata and Nvme ssd + 32GB ram I guess around 15W
Cpu tdp level 2 25W plus AC DC LL at 1 plus imon 50 trick ( no Power limit according to Throttlestop at all core 4.1GHz)

So 90AC +5W overload plus Battery boost in theory is capable of delivering enough power I think

Battery is always recharging to 100%

@Dzonomanolo - Good work, sounds like you got it all sorted out good now

when all works under full load "cpu/gpu" no problem
only drying battery on this load + ac recharge …,""not works"" ,need minimal battery wear level

but is ok ,i longtime use same overload AC ,and works fine
only in extreme condition -possible power off/voltage drops/more limits ,use hwinfo /msi kombustor "cpu burner + 3dload" --check results "heavy gaming test" all works normal -check stability

37w —""75w"" GPU nvvdd -x2 .,.hwinfo core offset is OK "94C" first limit ,only not raise memory -bad cooling "lot vram dead fast"

AC DC LL ? loadline "1" and need custom vcore "additional only works" + small offset 50 -0.050 ,for c-states -use LL "5-15" or need disable
,not works on LL "1" -random fps drops // app close only "no stopcode or error" hard test stability

example my cpu ,LL "1" 1200vcore additional + 50 offset - 1.250 idle -1295 load -full static voltage "no random spikes" // speed step "using full range "0-9ghz-4.5ghz" + disabled c-states

good set only LL "1" offset 50 "for boot" and in windows raising vcore -under stress "find stability" xtu bench / cpu burner "all cores" + 3d load -some minutes works fine
translation

must testing ,direct d–gpu @SVET on msi forum ?? full mod "VGA MODE like gt series "
,good luck
