[REQUEST] Z370 Killer SLI Bios extraction

Hi,

my bios seems broken so i am trying to flash a bios to my asrock z370 sli killer. i managed to finish up to the step where i click blank in the ch341A programmer. all good so far but i cannot convert the file i downloaded from asrock:

edit: can’t post link.

i have tried the linux dd bs=1024 skip=4 if=x of=x.rom and the uefitool extract ways but no luck.

i can’t find anything how to do it. pls help

Instant flash updates contain a complete spi image, should be ready to flash if single chip bios? Did you backup the bricked bios? Otherwise if blank did work well you missed serial number, and maybe other board specific information.

No matter what you use it’s a good idea starting with reading the chip and checking content of flash area.

No idea what you’re doing with dd here, most people use a CH341 programmer…

hi lfb6,
board is single bios. at least i only found one stating the fw and no chip next to it… but instant flash file is 16mb but chip is 8mb. i did backup the bricked bios. i would post link to the board but i can’t as a new user. i am using a ch341a programmer but as mentioned the file is too big. i can write the old bios back if that is neccessary but i need the shrunk down file. the dd is one of the things that i found googling. thx for your help.

Never recommended to flash size mismatch. Complete bios is 16MB, in flash descriptor it’s single chip bios, 16MByte!

that is really strange. my backup file is 8mb. did not flash a mismatch. i am stuck :frowning:

maybe the programmer version is too old?

i assume that there is only one way to connect the clamp to the chip, correct? all other ways will not detect.

Backup made with which program? Checked structure of backup (UEFIToolNE)?

ok, will do as soon as i come back. tools name is CH341A Programmer 1.18

i did flash with flashrom now. no problem and it got verified. unfortunately it did not fix my no signal detected problem. what i do not understand after flashrom erased and wrote the bios the LEDs on the board are still blue (which i had set). i would have thought that settings get reset, too.

@knevil Did you clear CMOS and remove the battery for at least 15 mins after reprogramming the BIOS?

@chinobi
nope, did not. will try. thank you very much.
