Over the past year, I’ve dedicated a significant amount of time and resources (about $6,000) to mastering the art of BIOS password recovery, specifically for Toughbook laptops. My journey included:
- Locating the password within the UEFI using specialized editing tools.
- Filtering out irrelevant HEX data.
- Extracting the actual hash file.
- Identifying the specific algorithm used for the hash (which turned out to be proprietary).
- Developing a brute force method to crack this unique algorithm.
- Learning to effectively use brute force attack techniques.
- Investing in a high-end graphics card to facilitate the process.
- Overcoming numerous failures and setbacks.
- Finally achieving success in cracking the password.
This endeavor has not only been a great learning experience but also quite profitable, as I’ve worked with major Toughbook dealers and earned over $75,000.
Now, I’m looking to expand my skills and explore other AMI BIOS systems. I’m particularly interested in understanding which other computer brands use AMI BIOS. I believe this knowledge will help me broaden my expertise in the field. If anyone has ROM files from other brands that use AMI BIOS and is willing to share them for educational purposes, it would be greatly appreciated.
