Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a z170 to overclock my i5 6500 and I was wondering since the last bios available with the skyoc function is the 7b and 7d, is it not possible to unlock this function even on the last available bios of gigabyte alias 22m?
@Fr0nk - Possibly, but swapping back in a bunch of stuff from the older BIOS, so not really an ideal move.
What do you want updated in 7d that makes you want to use newer BIOS? We can update stuff in there, but not microcode or ME FW, since those are the two key things that make the Sky OC possible.
Yes, i don’t need microcode or ME FW because i use an old and last 74 version of microcode for skyoc function with 7d bios. In the 22m there are fix for cold boot, cmos reset, bios support for optane memory, fan curve control, improved xmp compatibility and ram oc capability and other fix and stuff; and this was the point of my request, if it was possible to add only the function of 7d bios skyoc on the last bios available 22m for this motherboard. Thx!
Any Gigabyte BIOS for Z170 starting with F20.x and later has a new UI and has been redesigned (with the features you mentioned) for Kaby Lake support, these BIOS do not support Skylake base clock overclock even if you swap Skylake microcode to 74 and downgrade ME.
Also Intel Optane is not supported on Z170, even with a Kaby Lake CPU, my advice is to stick to the 7d BIOS if you want to OC the 6500.
And what about if i want to stick with 7d but with all bios rom/driver update?
