@pvmt7 This is true, I say that a conversion to GPT can be an option, but i say also that this is only possible if you have not installed Windows on the same drive, which means you have to reinstall Windows 7. (I read somewhere that a conversion from MBR to GPT is possible after an installation, but I would recommend to install Windows 7 again.
I understand.
W7 RE install on my SSD using UEFI etc. and then
the 2nd 4TB HD can be reformatted
to GPT as discussed.
Iāll disconnect the 4TB drive during W7 reinstall
just to be safe.
@ pvmt7:
1.) How many drives do you have in total? Of what type are the SSD drives (SATA or NVMe) ?
2.) Do you have any important data, files, programs or games on any of your drives that you donāt want to lose?
If 2.) isnāt a problem, then I would strongly reccommend a clean re-install of W7 (like PatrickK suggested) and a clean partitioning/conversion of your drives prior to that! (I can tell you how to do that)
AZ
Thanks @AbsoluteZero
2 Drives in total;
A Samsung EVO 970 500GB SSD NVMe E.2
for my main drive and a 4TB WD Black for storage etc.
Other than the 1st W7 install,I havenāt put anything onto the new system drive ( or the WD drive ), so nothing to lose, so to speak,
with a clean re-install of Partickās W7.
Is the re-install as straight forward as making sure the USB with the ISO has this time been formatted for UEFI
making sure BIOS have UEFI and CSM enabled and then rebooting with the ānewā USB ?
Patrickās other ISO installed using Legacy in the BIOS without a single issue.
Any info re: partitioning etc. in order to make sure all 4Tb of the WD are available would be great !
If you are using the 4TB drive for storage you can convert it to GPT and leave your Windows 7 installation alone. No need to reinstall. Legacy BIOS can access, read and write GPT just not boot from GPT. UEFI with CSM enabled would only be required for it to be the boot drive.
Thanks @Mr.Fox.
Soā¦how would I do the conversion ?
Iāve tried numerous times using disk mgmt etc.
but I do not get an option to convert to GPT.
What I see is;
New Volume (D:) ( I assigned the letter )
1677.90 GB NTFS
Healthy ( Primary Partition )
but when I right click on it, in any of itās locations
shown in disk mgmt.
the only options re formatting options available are "convert to dynamic disk"
or "format the disk"
Convert to GPT is not shown as an option anywhere.
Would prefer to not have to do a re-install but just canāt
get the GPT conversion happening.
@Mr_Fox is right, thatās what I mean, no reinstallation is required if Windows is not installed on the same drive. Windows supports GPT since Windows XP x64, thatās one of the reasong why Windows XP x64 runs on my backup-NAS.
@pvmt7 Read this at point 6:
https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/26ā¦k-gpt-disk.html
What do you mean with that?

Sorry, I was replying to the quoted post below, but the quote didnāt work for some reason. I can see how without the quote my reply would make it look like I was responding to your post directly above mine.
Well, as is usually the case with meā¦
One step forward, one to the side.
Followed Option 2 on the Windows Seven Forum Page.
Was then able to, for the first time, see the option of converting to GPT.
Which I did.
But the disk still only reads 1677.90 GB. and there are no partitions
even within it that could be joined, thus increasing the size closer to 4TB.
Hmmā¦
Hi.
Be sure Windows Disk Management utility is not running.
- Open a command prompt as admin
- Type diskpart and press enter
- Type list disk and press enter
A list of drives attached to your system will appear
From that list, identify the number assigned to the drive that you want to get working. You can tell by the size.
- Type select disk # and press enter (replace # with the number assigned to that disk - for example if it is disk 2 type select disk 2)
You will see a message that the disk was select
- Type clean and press enter
- Type convert gpt and press enter
Close the command prompt window.
Open Windows Disk Management. Select the drive, create a partition using the full drive and format it.
If the disk is still not the correct size, then perhaps there is something wrong with it or you were sold a drive smaller than what you paid for with the wrong label affixed to it.
I just want to say thank you to @PatrickK ! Because of you, I was able to do a fresh install of Windows 7 after replacing my motherboard. You were tremendously helpful!
Thanks Mr.Fox
Followed your steps and closed the command prompt window.
In Disk Management the HD is not shown in the volume section, but
shows up as ;
Disk 0
Basic 1677.90
1677.90 GB Unallocated
Online
When I right click on the unallocated section Iām given the option of New Simple Volume.
When I follow the prompts using all the default settings, the disk becomes āhealthyā,
no more grey stripes, but the frickinā size is stil 1677.90.
Do I need to change the Allocation size or the simple volume size as I step through the
New Simple Volume options ?
Am I missing a key W7 update ?
Iām working with Patrickās W7 Pro 64 bit SP2 ISO.
I donāt know if itās fully updated or not.
Forgot to ask, I was just so relieved to have it install properly :+)
So, could be that needs to be done first ?
Iāve also read the Intel Rapid Storage Driver is another possible answer to this issue.
But no one here has mentioned it so Iām reluctant to go there and possibly create more problems.
Orā¦?
Hi, i need ur help so much, i install win7 x64 2k10 software, keyboard and mouse indicators is on, but not working.
How i can fix it. Gigabyte b360m hd3 + i5 8400 (Im so sorry for my bad english, i from Russia)
@Sohei Hy, maybe you refer to me. I suggest that you try one of my ISOs from my FTP site.
General recommendations: Disable fast boot, do not use UEFI boot but legacy boot with CSM enabled, use the MBR-option in Rufus, not the GPT-option.
Hi PatrickK - I donāt have rights to reply to private message anymore evidently - just wanted to say thanks for the English ISO - gonna have a go and see how it works
Anyone share the latest USB drivers? I cannot find the link. Thank.
Hi buddy, why not, letās try it i so much be thankful,if it working.
What the name ISO win7 on your ftp server?
@sohei I assume you that you mean me.
I think the ISOās names are pretty self explanatory. And if not, just ask.
