Hey have you fixed the issue with Alienware 17 R2 ? I am also facing similar problem now

Dear All,

I have an XPS 9370 which is not turning on. All i can reach is the display test.
I think it has bios issue.
I have dumped my BIOS with CH341 Programmer.
I have seen a manual / few post how to make a clean bios i believe Lost_N_BIOS wrote it somewhere but i can not find it now.

If anybody can please have a look at my bump if possible tell me how to clean/fix it.

@Lost_N_BIOS

Can someone please extract (BIN files to be flashed) this bios for me? I am looking for 4MB and 8 MB BIN Files which i plan to flash directly using CH341 Programmer.

Hardware :Dell Latitude 3330. BIOS Version A13. My current BIOS Version is A01 and i am not able to update BIOS from Windows as well as USB DOS bootup. All goes well with no error but after auto boot , system simply boots into windows 10 without updating BIOS. Tried disabling Intel Virtulisation etc. but BIOS simply doesnt get updated.

I am looking for upgrading to A13. Exe file is available at https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER05122121M/1/3330A13.exe. But i dont have 8 and 4 MB BIN files for this. Can somebody pls assist with 8 and 4MB A13 version using this link?

I have tried multiple methods including PFS. However, not working out.

Dump of my existing working BIOS A01 is attached.

Thanks.

A01 Working Dump Latitude 3330.zip (5.83 MB)

I need help too to extract HDR and ROM files from Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720.
I tried the /writehdrfile and /writeromfile commands with all bios available on Dell site, but I always received errors.
The only thing I managed is to extract is the CAP file but I can’t use it for bios recovery.

Someone managed to recover the above files to recover a roasted 7720?

You can extract a bios region from the cap file, but that’s not a complete bios. You’ll need a complete and 100% valid dump of your original bios chip with a hardware programmer (CH341) to recover board-/ machine specific data and for the other UEFI firmware regions.

I can’t get the PFS extractor to work on this Dell file \BIOS_V134X_WN64_2.9.0.EXE

I can’t get WINRAR or 7z to work either

/writeromfile command throws an error

Can someone please help me get the ROM files so I can mod the BIOS in MM tool? My objective is to get my R520 to recognize the nvme drive on the pcie card.

Hi All,

Following on from the thread:
DELL XPS 8500 Vostro 470 Socket LGA1155 Motherboard NW73C - Wont see or use all Memory Slots

I made the mistake of thinking maybe going back to an earlier bios (A05 A06 etc) and then updating thru each once up to A14 via AFUDOS may resolve the issue. Instead the board refused top boot. Fans spin and board just beeps.

After some research I read that maybe the bios chip can be re-programmmed using a CH341A programmer. So I ordered one. I happened to find a replacement identical board on eBay as well (same board and it works fine with 16GB+ memory). Although I still wish to fix the original board if possible.

I understand from what I have read that all the CH341A programmer software 1.18-1.34 /Flashrom/AsProgrammer_1.4.1 all require a bios.bin file.

The Dell bios’s come as packaged .exe that contain a BIOS.ROM and a few other parts (ME etc) (up to version A06 or A10 I think) and after that its a BIOS.CAP.

Anyway I though I could create a BIOS.BIN from the working board. Unfortunately the SP1_1 chip on there is a MXIC MX25L3206E and I cannot read this chip to get a copy of the working bios. No software that I can see will read this chip. I have read that the CH341A may require the voltage mod from 5V to 3.3. ? I will look into this. I need some tiny wire and a soldering iron and a big magnifying glass :slight_smile:

The bricked board chip is a PCT25VF032B which seems to get detected as a SST SST25VF032B. I can read it but I just need a working BIOS.BIN to flash to it.

Can anybody please help me by explaining how to create a BIOS.BIN that I can use with the CHA341A Programmer or has a pre done version that can be posted? Not bother which version as I should be to get online and update later if needed.

I have uploaded all the DELL BIOS’s from the website on my MEGA.NZ page. I have also (I think) took a copy of the bad bios from the non working board in case that can be fixed or if we need any /Asset No/Serials/MAC address pulling from it. Well if that is even possible?

Hoping somebody can help with this. Thanks

Kind Regards,

@veloprofz : Welcome to the Win-RAID Forum!
Which tool did you use to extract the Dell BIOS file?
Have you already tried platomav’s “Dell PFS Update Extractor”? >Here< is the currently valid link to the tool.
Good luck!
Dieter (alias Fernando)

@veloprofz

Use Phoenix_SCT_Extract_v1.0: https://github.com/platomav/BIOSUtilities/releases

EDIT: My friend…a little blind on the reading? I didn’t mentioned any Dell PFS Update Extractor v5.0 did i???

@Fernando
I know you previous mentioned it, but i corrected to the user after you posted… for this file its not the right tool, that’s all, nothing wrong from your tips.

“Done!”… It gives always that message, successful or not.

Dell PFS Update Extractor v5.0
Enter input directory path: C:\Temp
*** 3360A12.exe
Error: This is not a Dell PFS update image!
Done!

@MeatWar :

No, you didn’t, it was me. For details please look into >this< post. Have I done something wrong?

Quote not working, this message for fernando and MeatWar:

Dell PFS Update Extractor v5.0

Enter input directory path: C:\Temp
*** 3360A12.exe
Error: This is not a Dell PFS update image!
Done!

@veloprofz Thanks for your feedback!

This was the obviously misleading word. Usually it is used, when the operation has been successful.
