I just bought some WD blue 1TB drives that I want to use in a RAID0 for a video recording drive but my OS is already installed in AHCI mode. I know i have to change something in the registry to enable RAID mode so i dont get a BSOD. I just don’t remember the location of the registry key or what to change. I would appreciate the help! I currently have modded my bios with the v13.1.0.2126 RAID ROM. I am running the v13.1.0.1058 AHCI driver.
@ johns36j:
I generally do not recommend to switch the SATA mode from within a running OS. It is much better and safer, if you make a backup of your most important data and then do a fresh OS install in RAID mode.
@Fernando :
What if i am not putting the OS on a raid array?..it will remain on a single ssd but i really want to just add a raid 0 to my existing setup!
Your single SSD will nevertheless run in RAID mode and will require a RAID driver instead of an AHCI one.
All drives, which are connected to any Intel SATA port, need a RAID driver, when you have set the Intel SATA Controller to "RAID" within the BIOS. It doesn’t matter, whether the drive is member of a RAID array or not.
Is there a way i can install that driver after switching modes? like forcing the windows to boot into safe mode?
No, the problem is, that you will not even be able to boot into Windows after the switch from "AHCI" to "RAID" mode.
What you can try is to force the installation of the RAID driver by choosing the file named iaStorAC.inf before you enter the BIOS and switch the SATA mode of the Intel SATA Controller.
