[TOOL] Easy automated Mod tool for Coffee Lake bios

I tried prime95, after around 15 minutes it froze.I did nothing at all, what I found is unplugging the Power cord is causing not booting with the coffee Lake. If I put in Skylake & Switch it out it boots. Guess I have to connect the two pins
---------------------

And which settings do I have to Change ? Ac dc loadline & no Auto voltage?

Btw I guess there was some silver paint left from the failed attempts between the two Pins

@Fatwaaa - Redo the mod and edit your backup instead, flash it back in

@PCGH_Torsten - SKTOCC not needed here on a few Gigabyte I tested B150N-Phoenix Wifi, Z170N-Gaming 5, one other too but I canā€™t remember which model.

And how do I overclock? It always stays on 4.3 GHz on all cores while I put a 46 core Ratio

Cinebench run was successful, guess Im stable now

Maybe I flashed the wrong rom without the xsyncallcore or sth? Or do I have to set sth in the bios that I can use my own core ratio settings?

Also can I reflash now after using the programmer with usb flashback without problems?

Btw if I use the intel xtu to overlock I can use up to 4.7 ghz but if I reboot the overclock doesnā€™t stay, the processor will stay on 4.3 ghz

Help please some one here. I cant flash my asrock z370 pro4 with ch341a programer v1.18. They have a winbond chip W25Q128JVSQ and donā€™t detect the chip. Tried with Asprogramer 1.41 and flashrom in linux too, same problem. using the asrock bios_ph1 header and also soldering wires directly to bios in motherboard. I want to downgrade ME version to 11.7 and add cpuid for skylake and kaby lake cpus.

coffetime and all in one tool cant read my backup bios file sir

Hi,

I hope I find some help this time, my system will not boot with the i5-9400 f

Here are the steps I took

I tried to use the automated tool but since I am using windows 10 I was getting an error on the Vbios and GOP Driver upodate

I had to do the vbios and GOP Driver update manually, I followed this guide [GUIDE] Coffee Lake CPUs on Skylake and Kaby Lake motherboards

Once that was completed I used the automated tool to create the BIOS, I did not get any errors

Once I had my BIOS File ready ,i was able to flash the modified BIOS using the AMI UEFI BIOS

I confirmed and the BIOS did update
my ME Version is 11.7.0.1229

Whenver I install the I5 9400F it will not boot
I already made CPU mod

I also flashed a modified BIOS with coffee time and I get the same result

The only 2 things I havent tried are Flashing using the CH341A Tool (I will order one as soon as I get paid).
I havent tried isolating the pins on the CPU.

Other than that is there any other suggestion or advise someone can give me
MB:Asus Z270-A Prime
CPU (Running) I5-6500K
CPU (Upgrading to) I5-9400F
I currently downgraded to BIOS Version 1009

Thanks

@Lost_N_BIOS : Nice to know :slight_smile:

@davidtheking : It could well be that SKTOCC is only checked on cold boot, just like RAM is not fully initialized after return from soft-off. However I would recommend to unplug PCs before changing CPUs. ^^ Perhaps this does also influence OC possibilities. I have never heard of multi not working with mod UEFI, but if your board only boots because it did not realise CPU swap, it might also apply OC locks for old non-K processor. You might also check/increacse power limit, perhaps the CPU could go higher but runs into throtteling early on. (Only guessing here, as said: No one reported such problems before)

Regarding voltages: Check acutal Vcore in System both idle and load and adjust accordingly. If you can already run Prime for a short time, board is doing quite well an should only need a few dozen millivolts either offset (if idle voltage ist rather low as well) or adaptive (if only full power szenarios are instable.)

Under load I get around 1.12 volts, I put llc to Level 5. Is it enough voltage? Prime is stable now, I applied silver paint to it. Maybe the sktocc is still not 100% fine so the overclock resets every boot or I should isolate the two pins

For 4.3 GHz, 1.12 V is at the lower end of auto settings. I usually test with 9900K and have seen from 1.04 to 1.38 V at 4.3 GHz applied automatically (few go above 1.25, though). However auto settings always include some margin to account for variability in CPUs, so an average CPU should be fine with this. If you encounter stability problems or want to overclock however, higher voltages might be requiered. 1.30 to 1.35 V are considered acceptable and 1.4 to 1.45 are regularly used to squeeze out the last MHz. Ample cooling provided, of course.

I have no further ideas on OC, though, beyond power limits. SKTOCC is a hit or miss and if the system boots cold than it is "hit".

I see in a utility called throttlestop that a pl1 limit on the cpu & edp limi on the cache is yellow. Maybe this is causing the issue?

Edit: The pl1 limit is gone if I use more voltage. Still the edp limit is there, what can I do about it?

Edit2: The pl1 limit is back after reboot

Also I see that only 4 cores are getting overclocked, the last 2 I have to set manually.

I am not familiar with throttlestop. HWInfo marks limits red if they are reached and also has a deticated yes/no entry for that. The PL1 displayed is defintley high enough for any oc
"EDP" limit says nothing to me to be honest. I could guess what the acronomy stands for, but I would not know, which component it relates to. Again: Try HWInfo, which lists parameters sorted by components.

4 core overclocking could be an UEFI issue, but not directly related to the mod. Have you used "all cores" option in UEFI? Per-Core-OC will only work on the first 2/3rds of the cores of an i5-9000 because the UEFI simply does not have option for 5th and 6th core. But usually "all core" should work no matter how many there are. I have not heard of other users having this problem, though.

P.S.: You can takte screenshots in UEFI to USB-drive (should be F11 key, but perhaps I am mixing up brands). Much easier to read for us.

Thx for the help, everything is green in HWInfo but the VID reads out 1.38 Volts while cpu-z says around 1.2v core voltage(on a 4.6ghz oc) and yes I used the all core option in UEFI but it seems like it just stays at default values when I boot up, after that I use Intel overclocking utility to set the 4.6 ghz. Guess Iā€™ll have to check the processor if only the 2 pins are connected or sth

Edit: No limits anymore, I did nothing just left the pc running for like 2 hours

@guspaz - For W25Q128JV >>
W25Q128JV - works with 1.18 (read OK, not write) or ASProgrammer 1.40/1.41 (Should be OK)
W25Q128JV - Colibri ver. 1.0.1.62 confirmed write OK
Software package with both above mentioned - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?filā€¦213094641136166

@kazp3r - Isolate pins as mentioned in all guides, once you get programmer let me know and I will make proper BIOS for you so there will be no mod BIOS concerns
When it arrives and you post back, be sure to tell me your old CPU model, and your new CPU model AND SSPEC off top of CPU

@davidtheking : VID is not Vcore! There should be a separate read-out for the latter one somewhere along the mainboard tabs in HWInfo. Nice however that everything works now.

@PCGH_Torsten I know, but the VID was pretty high for me. But I guess this is normal, the funny thing is everything works now right from BIOS & I donā€™t know why. Maybe the silver paint had to dry a little further or sth

Hello everyone, can some one help me please? I try to modified bios on my MSI z170a sli plus. But I canā€™t patch ACPI TABLES! I need to do o if ok if is not? Is absolutely necessary? Thanks for you help. I try to install i5-8700.
Sorry for my English! Thanks again!

Update: I received my ch341a and have been experimenting with different modded BIOSā€™s and some backports. The only BIOS I have been able to boot my Xeon E-2288G or i5-9500T on is a backport of the Strix Z370-I (v2001) that I found on a russian discord server, which is apparently by @dsanke . I am able to flash the modified BIOS but it is very unstable, the system will turn on and then power off after a random number of seconds, sometimes it turns on and immediately turns off, but sometimes it will be stable enough to enter BIOS and change settings or even boot into windows for a few minutes before instantly shutting off. After it has been shutdown or restarted from within Windows, the system will stop turning on at all. The power lights and LEDs will turn on but pressing the power button does nothing. This happens on both my 9500T and E-2288G so I donā€™t believe it is related to power consumption or thread count, as the 9500T is 6c/6t 35w and the Xeon is 8c/16t 95w. Can anyone help or give me some advice? I think the problem is caused by the ME but Iā€™m not sure.

I spoke with @Lost_N_BIOS about the backport and hes suggested I also tag in @chinobino

@Lost_N_BIOS i have to take the eeprom out of motherboard and weld it directly to ch341 programmer and detected ok. i make backup (read and save). i modified the backup bios with AIO tool to downgrade to ME 11.7xx, i found a Macronix MX25L12835F chip (in the datasheet seems to be the same pins and 16mb memory), erased memory, writed moded bios and put it in motherboard, tried to boot with i3 7100 but cpu fans power on 1 second, reboot and still power on permanent without video output. also tried with pentium g5400 (coffee lake cpu) and power on 1 second and shutdown (worst than i3). Ok, i thinked maybe the MX ic was the problem and do the same but this time with original Winbond chip W25Q128JVSG, same issue. Ok, now i will try to back the fisrt state flashing backup bios unmodified, but still the same problem! i killed my asrock z370 pro4? :frowning:

@guspaz - What software/version did you use to write, it may be failing due to bad write/incompatible software/version for that chip/ID. Or it could be broken BIOS due to bad mod, sounds like it must be one of these, due to your old CPU not working either.
Upload your original dump for me and I will redo the mod << For this, tell me your old CPU model, and your new CPU model AND SSPEC

For the first chip you mentioned, I donā€™t know for sure, no one has discussed or reported what works here. But I know for MX25L12873F use CH341A v1.31(1.4) (CH341AFree) (This is the name of the folder), ASProgrammer 1.4 or 1.41, or CH341A v1.1.1.32, so one of those may work for as well, all in below linked package
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?filā€¦213094641136166

For W25Q128JV >>
W25Q128JV - works with 1.18 (read, not write) or ASProgrammer 1.40/1.41 (maybe OK)
W25Q128JV - Colibri ver. 1.0.1.62 confirmed write OK << This is only one Iā€™ve seen confirmed OK read and write. I say stick to this chip and this software, once I make you fixed BIOS [winik]

Main issue here may be failed writes, or bad mod BIOS, OR bad mod BIOS AND Failed writes AND bad source BIOS (ie bad dump) due to badly dumped/corrupted from the start etc due to incompatible software creating the initial dump.
Do you have a FPT backup of the BIOS region from before you did anything, or ANY previous BIOS backup made with any program, from before you did anything? If yes, please upload for me, I will make you a BIOS

You should connect and Isolate pads on g5400, if you have not already.

@emeraldx86 Try this BIOS http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=00288656704737395495
