Trackpad not being detected by Windows 7

Hello! So I installed windows 7 on my laptop using CSM and it installed almost flawlessly. Every driver works except an application driver which isn’t needed. However, the trackpad not only doesn’t work and doesn’t have drivers installed, but it is not even detected by windows 7. It works on linux, windows 8 and above and it shows as “ELAN input device”. My laptop model is an hp-eq1001nv.

Where did you check it?
Which architecture has your Win7 OS (x86 or x64)?
Tip: Check the HardwareIDs of the device (e.g. by running Win8 or above) and then search for a suitable Win7 driver.

I am running x64 windows 7 with every update but the trackpad device is completely absent from device manager so I cannot install drivers

Take a screenshot from win8. Device Manager AnLianJiePaiLieSheBei(in Chinese).

ok so that didnt work

so i need to install win 8 now?

It maybe enumerated under aother device(such as I2C). If win8 or later is installed, and it works, we can find the device(hardware Id, resources) and drivers(service, INF and relative binaries) info in the device tree.
You may try it with USB win10 PE and find the relative info in PE’s Device Manager.

For example, in a Legion Y7000P Laptop, the first device is Intel I2C host controller(PCI device)(main driver: iaLPSS2i_I2C_CNL.sys). Under which is I2C HID Device(ACPI device)(main driver: hidi2c.sys and mshidkmdf.sys). Then under is HID Touchpad(HID device)(no drivers). In this case, I think we must install drivers for the PCI I2C device first.

Is it possible that the application driver is an I2C/GPIO controller? Or one of the devices installed needs to update its driver?

I just installed win7 on a Legion Y7000P 2019 laptop. The touchpad can’t work yet because it is under an Intel I2C Device which has not been drivered. I will try to mod its win10 driver.

It seems that DrvCeo has an ELAN TouchPad driver in its cloud server. Maybe you can find the info in win10PE and try DevCeo.

yes i did that a long time ago and the hardware id is something like ELAN/something which is just not present in windows 7, it looks like windows 7 does not pick up the i2c hid interface. i decided to do an IFR extract on my bios dump and no setting for i2c was present

Now I think the I2C should work with new acpi.sys. Otherwise the i2c resources (type 8C / 8E) required by the touchpad are not recognized by win7’s acpi.sys.

what acpi.sys? you havent given it to me or anything

did u make the new acpi.sys? or is it available from another person

No. "new acpi.sys“ is acpi.sys >= win8. It is difficult to add win8 acpi.sys’s features to win7. In additional, acpiex.sys, KMDF(>=1.15) and spbcx.sys also should be ported.

porting sounds hard my best bet is to look for a variable in my bios dump that allows my trackpad to be detected by old OS like the setting for AHCI to be like IDE and work with old windows versions

never flippin mind i only had to do the pnputil install driver with the generic HIDI2C file, like you do on windows server if you want trackpad support

Some touchpad under I2C bus can’t work now.

can you elaborate and send a download link please?

i know i saw you on another post, but it is highly unlikely it will work for other devices, i was just very lucky that HP put some weird I2C compatibility

i mean im mostly fine with the trackpad not working, however the keyboard really is whats critical for me lol

it isnt quite I2C, its ps/2 and is weirdly bugged out as to where itll work for fractions of a second

you can see a recent post i made in windows 7 category for more details

still, thanks though!
