hi im a noob and i tried searching for instructions but i havent found any. i tried to install the lastest 106x sata contoller driver from my motherboard page. i run the installer and get bsod and now unable to boot. the bsod is 0x000007b and its the assahci64.sys driver thats an issue. (i did manage to boot by using a boobtable img and deleting the file but its very unstable)
is the problem that you cant run an installer in os? i have all hds in ahci mode in bios and 2 softare raided and a ssd on the 6gb sata.
to manually install do i just copy the files asstachi64 .dll .sys .inf .cat from a bootable usb into into windows/system32/driver folder and programfiles/assmedia 106x sata/drivers folder?
im confused as to which im supposed to install from as there are 3 different folders stor stachi and scsi.
i have an asus intel p8z77m-pro mb and win7 64bit

Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
You obviously installed a wrong driver. The correct name of the ASMedia 106x SATA AHCI Controller is "asstahci64.sys" and not "assahci64.sys".
By the way: You can find the latest 64bit ASMedia 106x AHCI driver v3.1.7.0 for Win 7-10 x64 within the start post of >this< thread.
According to my experience it is better to install just the pure driver from within the Device Manager instead of running the installer of a complete package.
No, this would be absolutely wrong.
This is what you should do, if you want to replace the currently running driver of any on-board SATA Controller by a newer WHQL certified driver:
- Run the Device Manager and search for the related SATA Controller within the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" or "Storage Controllers" section.
Tip: Check the VendorID and the DeviceID of the Controller to be sure, that it is the SATA Controller you are searching for (right-click onto it > "Properties" > "Details" > "Property" > "HardwareIDs"). - Right click onto the SATA Controller and choose options "Update Driver Software" > "Browse my Computer" > "Search".
- Navigate to the folder, where your desired driver is situated (there must be at least minimum an .INF, a .CAT and a .SYS file).
- Click "OK".
- The installation will be done automaticly, if the offered driver is compatible and newer.
- After the next reboot the new driver will be used by the related SATA Controller.
Good luck!

i figured out that i can compare the hardware id to the .inf file in the install folder. no where on this website is that explained
Which website do you mean?
this one Tip: Check the VendorID and the DeviceID of the Controller to be sure, that it is the SATA Controller you are searching for (right-click onto it > "Properties" > "Details" > "Property" > "HardwareIDs"). didnt say that the id was in the inf file of the installer
