Hey everyone…
Was just wondering if there is a way to unlock or hack my Bois ? The reason i’m searching for this is as follows…
My budget is very limited as of late and i want to fully upgrade my current PC before diving into building a new one from scratch.
My Ram Limit is only 4-GIG where Compaq/HP has removed 2 of the 4 RAM slots on my M2N68-LA (Narra6) motherboard
I have the AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor) Processor at the moment but found my MoBo can supports these Processors
Socket type: AM3
TDP: 95 watt
AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb)
AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka)
AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto)
AMD II Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
AMD II Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)
AMD Sempron 1xx (Sargas)
Obversely i want to fully upgrade my PC so i was looking at the AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb).
But then found out that the AMD Athlon X2 5000+ can be unlocked to the same specs as the Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb) BUT at a much cheaper cost.
I’ve had a little look around and not sure where to go from here… Here is some more details about my system
I also have the Model Number, Product Number, The Build Id and the Core Number if needed…
Any help with this would be great
Please go to my latest comment as i have scraped the Idea of Unlocking the Bios (20/04/2015)
@ N4Steam:
Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!
Although the modification of system BIOS components has never been a main topic of this Forum, I hope, that you will get some support by anyone, who knows more about this sort of "BIOS hacking" than me.

Make sure, your motherboard supports Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC), or you will be unable to unlock cpu cores.
And even so, he will need luck. If AMD is still taking x4 chips and locking them to x2 or x3 then yes but usually there is some other reason such as defective cores or similar. It could also be that the disabled core/cores require more voltage, in that case you can easily apply it and have a working chip.
For example I have lying around a Athlon II X3 which is actually a deneb core (x4). No matter what I did I wasn’t able to unlock the 4th core + 6MB L3 cache together. But, I could unlock 6MB L3 cache at 2 cores. Since losing a core for 6MB L3 is not really worth it, I left it at x3 with no L3. Unfortunate but usually that’s the result.
I’ve seen around alot of people over clocking CPU’s on this motherboard as well as RAM Voltage…
The downside for me is where it is branded by HP/Compaq the features are just not there in the normal Bios.
Sorry that this was way off topic, It just seemed like people here know what they are talking about so i though i would take a shot in the dark and ask, I will do some more digging around.
Thank you everyone for your responses
You didn’t added any link to a BIOS file. While searching for one, I also found out you asked the same thing on bios-mods. There is nothing wrong with asking help from multiple sources, but when you cross-post the same thing in the same day, you clearly show no respect for the users in both forums and just expect them to fulfil your desires, as fast as possible.
I respect everyone that has more advanced skills than myself, a matter of fact i respect anyone who shows it.
Yes i did post the same thing on another forum but i personally don’t see how that shows that i’m not showing any respect, Multiple sources of information is a great and positive thing, Even if people don’t find me a solution or even comment on a thread i made, No biggie, And from the people that do is highly appreciated and great to speak to and get to know.
I’m not meaning any disrespect by this and please do not think i am, I’m just putting my point across as you did also…
@ N4STeam:
No Forum member, who is giving or wants to give support, likes it, when the same request has been sent to other Forums simultaneously without mentioning this within the initial request post.
Reasons:
1. We just want to help and don’t want to participate in a contest between different Forums regarding who is the fastest or best.
2. Each effort to help someone, who asked for support, is just wasted time, when the question has already been answered within another Forum.
Yes i Understand that and please be sure i wasn’t trying to start a contest between forums, If this is going to cause conflict between members then please delete this thread as i honestly didn’t mean anything by it
After a lot more searching i still can not really find what i am looking for so i searched for my motherboard instead which is a M2N68-LA So i searched for a M2N68, I believe it’s AUSU Which isn’t to expensive as long as i can find one that isn’t branded to a PC manufacturer like HP or Dell and so on.
So now i’m thinking do i go and buy a new MoBo and use what i have in my current set up till i can buy more RAM as this board has 4 RAM BANKS and then slowly move up to the CPU and the GPU…
What do you guys and girls think ?
