This is my somewhat awkwardly designed chart from the pdf doc about Aptio setup data module structure which I copy pasted from level1techs.com/u/mov_ax_0xdead/.

It turned out it is relatively hard to understand for unexperienced users. So eventually I had to gather the most valuable of its information into a new feature for UEFI Editor. I did this and called it a day.

But the pdf was still missing information on how those cherry-picked items get to setup screen and how to manage the bios tabs. A while ago I returned to it and going to share the results of my little research…
in another pdf!
Shout out to my friend for pushing me in the right direction @0su_gh0ul.

Gigabyte’ Cool GUI BIOS Setup Structure

The guide is primarily useful for portable devices.
There haven’t been many cases where Boot Guard like solutions were implemented in desktops, in contrary to laptops. Therefore, in the event when BIOS flashing and patching AMITSE module are no-go, you can resort to patching CoolGUIDXE at runtime. Besides this mod method being more friendly than SetupData editing, the compatibility with SREP is the biggest advantage.

Here’s the video with mod results too!

holy moly this guy is genius

I swear I’m going to cancel you.

That aside, I do really have more info on setup structure of different bios, but they are rather obsolete now (e.g. legacy Compaq). If there is going to be great interest around it, I might post this too.
