Hello! I’m hoping I can get some help on a weird problem I’m having concerning my notebook’s USB 3.0/2.0 Ports… Well let me put it in a nutshell… I have an Asus K55A notebook with x1 USB 2.0 port and x2 USB 3.0 ports… Windows 8.1 forced a new Intel® USB 3.0 Host Controller (0100-Microsoft) driver with a November 2013 date… Basically EVERYTHING I connect to the USB 2.0 port shows up as connected to the USB Root Hub (xHCI) under the 3.0 Controller… Now in the 3.0 host controller properties I noticed a strange thing… under location paths it lists the following:
PCIROOT(0)#PCI(1400)
ACPI(SB)#ACPI(PCI0)#ACPI(XHC1)
ACPI(SB)#ACPI(PCI0)#ACPI(XHC_)
Now I’m no expert but ALL other notebooks from various manufacturers only have the PCIROOT path and not ACPI paths… Also Win8.1 won’t even let me reinstall the original MS 3.0 driver that it had before… And obviously not Intel® drivers as well… 2 nights ago I was cleaning my notebook and when I was spraying compressed air around the WLAN card… I noticed an Asmedia ASM1042 Chip!!! If I remember correctly a while back I was using Win7 I had to install both Intel® and Asmedia USB 3.0 drivers and that was reflected in Device Manager… How come Win8.1 doesn’t even detect the Asmedia hardware or Controller??? Also I don’t have any unknown devices listed either… Only in Aida64 I get an unknown device but that’s it… All hardware monitoring programs don’t detect the Asmedia hardware either… But I have the chip in my notebook… and Asus provides an Asmedia driver for Win7… As well as one from Intel®… I need help with this because my benchmarks and actual file transfer speeds for USB 3.0 devices such as HDD’s and Memory Sticks are around 2.0 speeds… and mainly because the 2.0 port gets enumerated under 3.0 stack… Thx in advance for any and all help!!!
