That is correct HDM Is HGST Device Manager is need for checking drive and firmware updates.
It might be wise to post HGST Device Manager to SSD tools it works like Intel® SSD Data Center Tool (Intel® SSD DCT) only harder to use not as friendly.

HDM is very hard to find to download online, I had to request it from WD and they emailed it to me but they did not send me the NVMe drivers
