X79-DELUXE Raid 0 Trim

Hi everybody, i recently bought a new motherboard, X79-DELUXE. I am wondering how to make raid 0 trim support working.

Out of the box the board doesnt have RSTE but RST with RAID OROM 12.7.0.1936.

i tried installing RST and look for trim support and it doesnt work.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome at Win-RAID Forum!

How did you test it?
Which OS are you running?
Which Intel RAID drivers did you install?
TRIM should work, if you are running Win7, Win8 or Win8.1 and using the Intel RST(e) drivers v11.x.x.xxxx or higher.

Fernando

Hmmm i didn’t install any drivers in windows.

I am using windows 8

Can you link me to the drivers in windows and what RST to install?

Which Windows 8 architecture (32bit or 64bit) are you running?
Did you really have created a RAID0 array with both SSDs as members?
If yes, I recommend to install the "Intel RST(e) AHCI/RAID Drivers & Software Set v12.8.2.1000 WHQL". You can find the download link >here<.

i created raid array in the orom, and i an using win 8 64bit my board has the X79 chipset but runs standard RST OROM.

So i should use 12.8 for rst but what about the windows drivers?

What do you mean with "standard"?
Which Intel(R) RAID Utility version do you see after having hit CTRL+I?

They will be overwritten.

i see 12.7.0.1936 but when i use trim check , trim doesnt work. :\

Do the following:

  1. Run the Windows Experiece Index to make sure, that your RAIDed SSDs are detected by the OS as Solid State Drives.
  2. Then run the Win8 "Optimizer" on drive C:.
  3. Repeat the TRIM test.

Did that, still doesnt work :\ keep in mind this is X79 chipset.

Thanks

I kept that in my mind all the time, but I am sure, that it is possible to get TRIM activity within an X79 chipset RAID0 SSD array by using one of the following RST RAID OROM/drivers combinations:
a) Intel RST RAID ROM v11.6.0.1702 or higher / Intel RST(e) RAID drivers v11.6.x.x.xxxx or higher or
b) Intel RSTe RAID ROM v3.7.0.1049 / Intel RSTe RAID drivers v3.7.x.x.xxxx or higher.

hmmm, well i have orom 12.7.0.1936 and 12.8 RST :\ , maybe the trim check thing isnt working for me.

The board comes with a driver disk for a reason, most times windows default drivers are outdated garbage, you should go to Asus and install all the drivers. ( actually there are newer drivers out, at station driver ) If you like to use the newest or beta. You should also update your BIOS, as there is a stability fix.

The problem is most likely win 8, it’s junk. Win 8 has problems with good TRIM send. You might see a difference when you update to 8.1. ( only four more day’s for you.)

The only reason TRIM didn’t work on the X79 was because of RSTE controller, which by the way Intel has added TRIM support, but if the mobo mfg added the RST OROM, like on your board, it can get TRIMMED.

You really don’t need to worry, if you have a SSD from within the last three years, it has Garbage Collection. Stay below 70 full, which is the same as making a over provisioning partition.

Alright ill wait for windows 8.1 and see if it works then.

Thanks

Yea my Raid Trim Still doesnt work :\

It is hard to believe, that TRIM doesn’t work for you, because other X79 chipset RAID0 users confirmed to have TRIM activity after having used the required Intel RAID OROM/SataDriver and RAID driver version.
Questions:
1. Which sort of SSDs (vendor and name) are the members of the RAID0 array?
2. Have you flashed the latest Firmware into the SSDs?

  1. OCZ VERTEX 3
    2. Yes

There is a new RST out there should i install it?
    V12.80.1016

Ok, the OCZ Vertex 3 has a SandForce Controller, which is very tricky regarding TRIM, that means, that TRIM activity is not easy to be detected.

They are not the newest ones. Who offers them?
The actual Intel RST drivers are v12.8.6.1000 WHQL. Have you already tried to install them?

On the Asus website when i go under my motherboard, this is the RTS it suggests to install for windows 8.1.

I installed v12.8.6.1000 WHQL since you say it’s the latest.

My computers runs good in windows 8.1 i don’t know if trim is working or not, but it’s working smooth.

Thanks for your response.
I am pretty sure, that TRIM is working within your RAID0, but the SandForce Controllers of the OCZ SSDs may prevent the detection of the TRIM activity by our simple TRIM test methods.
Nevertheless it may be a good idea to run from time to time the Win8.1 "Optimizer" to get the SSDs cleaned.
