X99-WS/IPMI bifurcation help

Hi everyone, I’m struggling to edit a BIOS file, I very rarely ask for help but I’m hitting a wall with this one!

I’ve got an ASUS X99-WS/IPMI and two BIOS files, one file is an old file from a company that has enabled the option of Bifurcation (labeled PCIe Width) on PCIE2&PCIE3, to either x16 or x8/x8, and the bios also enables Thunderbolt options, and the other file is the latest ASUS X99-WS/IPMI 4001 bios (can’t link as i’m a new member)

I’m looking to run the newest ASUS file, but to also enable bifurcation like in my other file, but across all ports. I’m not fussed with enabling the Thunderbolt settings that my file has, but if I can enable this at the same time as expanding my bifurcation options that’d be amazing!!! I also want to learn how to do this so that if I need to update my BIOS in the future I can without relying on others.

I’ve tried playing with AMIBCP/UEFITools on an old netbook, by setting any slightly relevant options to USER but I couldn’t get the CAP file to be seen as a valid BIOS file on my mobo. I can see in UEFITool (on macbook) that the ASUS file has reference to bifurcation, but I can’t put all the pieces together on how to enable this!

I’d love it if anyone can help me out/point me in the direction of how to enable these bios options etc.
(I’d prefer to have the ability to choose in BIOS as I may need to move cards around my server as needed!)

Thanks in advanced
Austin

Please do use the search box on the forum, …as there’s plenty of info on X99 BIF, besides 2 posted guides with confirmed methods, tools and success reports.

Hi MeatWar,

I’ve searched the forums but they aren’t helping me unfortunately, lots of posts talk of the IntelIRC which doesn’t appear on mine, and rather than baking in a change in the bios I’d like the option to change the value on the fly within the bios - like on the other bios version I have… I’m trying my best/learning quick but just getting stumped!

Have you got any Asus examples I can follow?

Thanks
Austin

If its not there then i cant be done, not all x99 bios have the options, nothing can be added to the main bios code.
But in your case, you have to open your eyes a bit more… its there IntelRCsetup/IIO.
I also would like to win the lottery…as an option instead of working for living… on the fly preferably, cheers.

EDIT: You have another bios with it…nice, how do you intend to add those features to your bios, copy/paste!!!
Usually thats what your users like you, have in mind when they say… i have a bios with it/have seen as bios with it… so easy humm? You cant alter the main bios image core structure.
User mods outside a bios engineer lab as some limits/tools available.
There is an example on the forum, but the user exchange only an un-needed (to its choice only) function string and re-directed to another function, not related to BIF anyway.

I’ll have another hunt later on, but you say that nothing can be added to the main bios… I have another bios file that has those options.
I’d love to be millionaire, but you’re not going to get there on your own
