Hello everyone, I’ve just recently completed my Windows XP build. The specs are as follows:
ASUS X79-DELUXE
i7-4960X
GTX 960
Kingston A400 500GB SSD
Bios set to AHCI
After slipstreaming the C600 Series Chipset SATA AHCI Controller drivers, I boot the installer which prompts me to an error message saying “The file iaStorA.sys could not be found. Press any key to continue.” I’ve also tried using the drivers on WinSetupFromUSB which give me the same results.
I’ve tried these drivers as well, specifically the “Classical” Intel RST AHCI/RAID drivers which gave me a blue screen with the stop code:
0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF706B003, 0xF791EA8C, 0xF791E788)
iaStor.sys - Address F706B003 base at F7046000, DateStamp 4fc682ed
Where could I find the proper drivers? Preferably I’d love to get x64 to work, but 32-bit will work as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’ve been struggling with this for quite a while now.

Welcome to the Win-Raid Forum!
To be able to help you I need the following information:
a) Which HardwareIDs has your on-board Intel SATA AHCI Controller?
b) Which Intel AHCI driver version did you integrate into which XP Image?
c) Which Windows Customizing tool did you use?
d) If it was nLite, did you follow >this< Guide?
a) I am not sure, I don’t have an operating system installed on the machine. Would I be able to use a Linux distro to find it, or do I have to install a newer version of Windows?
b) I’ve tried “32bit Intel RST AHCI & RAID driver v10.5.2.1010 for X79” and a few others, which resulted in the installer giving me the iaStorA.sys could not be found error. I’ve gotten a different bluescreen (0x0000007E) using your modded drivers.
c) nLite
d) Yes, although I am unable to use a CD/DVD. I’ve tried burning a DVD, which resulted in a black screen and a blinking cursor. As of now I’ve been using WinSetupFromUSB which is booting.
I’ve also made sure my SSD is plugged into the correct Intel SATA port.

Without knowing the exact HardwareIDs of your on-board Intel SATA AHCI Controller It is not easy to help you.
My suggestion: Enter the BIOS and set the Intel SATA Controller to “IDE” mode.
After having done that you should be able to get the latest untouched Windows XP (32bit or 64bit) Image installed onto your SSD.
Since I cannot find this driver on my storage drives, please attach this driverpack or give me a working link to it.
Hello, I have uploaded 3 images from device manager. I’ve also included the drivers and the ISO I tried. Let me know if anything else is needed. These pictures were taken on Windows 8.1 x64 running in AHCI mode.

Thanks for the links.
If you really want to install Windows XP x86 onto your ASUS DeLuxe X79 PC, I recommend to do the following:
a) Load or integrate the 32bit Intel RST AHCI & RAID driver v10.5.2.1010 for X79 into the ISO. To prevent the nLite error message “The file iaStor.sys could not be found”, it may be a good idea to copy the related file from the v10.5.2.1010 driverpack into the i386 folder of the Win7 Image before starting the procedure.
b) If the OS installation in AHCI mode should not work, install the OS in IDE mode. Once the OS is up and running, run the Device Manager, expand the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers” section and force the installation of the (currently not matching) Intel RST AHCI driver v10.5.2.1010 by hitting the “Have Disk” button and navigating to the related driver folder. While rebooting enter the BIOS, set the Intel SATA Controller to “AHCI” and save these updated BIOS settings. Then restart the PC and look what happens.
Good luck!
This is not easy to understand. As written above my recent advices are valid for the installation of Windows XP x86 (32bit). If you want to install Win7 (32/64bit) or XP x64, you have to load/integrate another Intel AHCI driver.
You will not get the 7B BSOD (“wrong textmode driver”), if you use an original (untouched) OS Image as source and have removed all other disk drives except the one, which is connected to an Intel SATA Controller.
“If you really want to install Win7 x86 onto your ASUS DeLuxe X79 PC, I recommend to do the following:”’
My apologies, you mentioned Win7 which is why I wanted to make sure. To clarify, I am using Windows XP.
“To prevent the nLite error message “The file iaStor.sys could not be found”, it may be a good idea to copy the related file from the v10.5.2.1010 driverpack into the i386 folder of the Win7 Image before starting the procedure.”
This error message does not appear in nLite but during the Windows installation when it tries to load the driver. I will try manually adding it later.

I am pretty certain I have been using an untouched ISO, but I will give it a try once I’m off work and post an update here.
That would explain the issue then haha. I’ve been looking through some posts and saw that you mentioned the “Universal 32bit Intel RST AHCI driver v11.2.0.1006 mod by Fernando.” Would this be what I’m looking for?
Unfortunately I am still getting the 0x0000007E blue screen using “Generic 32bit Intel RST AHCI driver v11.2.0.1006 mod+signed by Fernando.” I’ve made sure to use an untouched WinXP SP3 x86 ISO. I am completely lost at this point.

Please read >this< article and check, which specific issue of your system has caused the 7E BSOD.
Furthermore I recommend to make sure, that
a) all disk drives except the target one for the XP installation are removed or unplugged and
b) the target disk drive is connected to the Intel SATA AHCI Controller.
As you can see here, your system has 4 different on-board SATA AHCI Controllers (2 ASMedia, 1 Marvell and 1 Intel):
