Z390 Aorus Pro | Any way to disable onboard RGB controller with a modded BIOS?

Hi,

I have a Z390 Aorus Pro. About 2 years ago, the onboard RGB controller died for some reason.

The RGB lights and PC would always behave weird when the PSU On/Off switch was turned On after being turned Off for some time. For example, when coming back from vacation or when cleaning the area where the PC is. The RGB lights would turn on even though they were completely set to off in the BIOS and would later turn off by themselves. The PC would also automatically start even though I did not press the power on switch…

Anyway these 2 issues are not anything significant, but the cause of RGB controller death is definitely connected to them. One time I turned the PSU On and the lights lit up and have remained in the same state since. Some other people on reddit have also experienced the same issue on Z390 Aorus and other Aorus boards. Basically, the lights on the motherboard remain static and I can’t disable them or change their colour.

So in Windows Device Manager, this device (RGB controller) can be found under ITE Upgrade Mode and every 10 minutes, it disconnects and a few seconds later reconnects. Under ITE Upgrade Mode, I can see “HID-compliant vendor-defined device” and “USB Input Device”. Both of these can be disabled/blacklisted either in Device Manager or in Group Policy. However, disabling them doesn’t actually prevent them from disconnecting/reconnecting. The device can still be seen in Device Manager, but now it says in the properties “Setup blocked by Group Policy”. So effectively, these settings are useless. The location of “USB Input Device” is Port_#0012.Hub_#0002 and I think it is the same on all Z390 Aorus Pro boards.

Now I wonder if it is possible to completely disable/ignore the RGB controller from the driver/BIOS level? How difficult would doing this be? I am currently using the latest F13 bios.
