I am researching a new Z87 system for Intel I5-4670k cpu and am asking if anyone has motherboard suggestions.
The motherboard features I’m interested in are:
recoverable bios (so that a badly modded bios doesn’t brick the motherboard)
overclocking capability
SATA III ports - won’t need more than 6
I don’t care about thunderbolt (at least for now)
I’ll be using a single video card (AMD HD7870 - SLI/Crossfire not important at least for now and onboard graphic connectors not important)
I want on-board audio and lan - not picky about chips
Fan control would be nice
ATX Form factor for mid tower case
Open to any manufacturer - but have had good success with ASUS
price around 150USD (in USA)
Thanks for your suggestions
Hi,
could try this: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87%20Extreme4/
I swear on ASRock right now. Before I also was into ASUS but price/value level is really good. With this board you have a lot of different connection options incl. PCI. Also 12 phase power for OC and so on and so on
+1 for AsRock Z87 Extreme4, which I have been using for a while. No problems at all. But flashing bios is not that easy, as its locked for "security". Sure you can by-pass it.
Thanks @hanson and @saglamtimur for the AsRock Z87 Extreme4 suggestion.
I had been looking at the ASUS Z87-A motherboard when I first posted fishing for recommendations from all of you good folk.
Now the ASUS Z87-A motherboard just went on sale at Newegg for $130 (down from $140).
So, does anyone have any experience with or recommendation for the ASUS Z87-A?
It doesn’t support the USB Flashback feature, which makes it easy to flash modded BIOS files.
