update SATA AHCI Controller ?

We have on our Z97-K motherboard an Intel(R)9 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller with driver ; 14.8.16.1063
After the upgrade to RedStone 3 , we found a new version ; 14.10.0.1016 for this driver.

Can you tell us if this is an update ( ?) and worth updating also ?
Does this system perform better when updating ?

@Pete12 :
The Intel RST(e) drivers v14.10.0.1016 are dated 02/03/2016 and were the first ones of the meanwhile stopped development branch v14.10.x.xxxx, whereas the v14.8.16.1063 drivers are dated 04/10/2017 and the currently latest of the well developed v14.8.x.xxxx branch.
My conclusion: I do not recommend to update from v14.8.16.1063 to v14.10.0.1016.

OK, Fernando, thank you , for your clear explanation !
So, we will not udate to 14.10 , coz its much older then 14.8 .
I found it very difficult sometimes , for finding the right driver , there is no locig between the driver-number and the date …
While some driver-software always choose the highest driver-number !

The v14.10 driver is not only older, but addtionally may have a lot of bugs, because it was the first driver of that development branch.

This doesn’t happen, when you run the installer of a complete Intel RST/RSTe Drivers & Software Set.

Any plans for a 300-series storage driver mod for Windows 7 x64? I spent all day fighting for a way of trying to install Windows 7 on my new desktop (Z370 8700K) and finally gave up.

I got it working by restoring a Macrium Reflect Image of Windows 7 from my laptop with 7700K, then installing a new product key and reactivating Windows. It works great, but doing a normal install is impossible without a driver that Windows Setup will recognize.

@Mr_Fox :
Welcome to the Win-RAID Forum!

Yes, but before I can start my work, I need some additional information:
1. Which Intel RST(e) AHCI driver version do you want to install?
2. Which are the HardwareIDs of your on-board Intel SATA AHCI Controller (right-click onto it > “Properties” > “Details” > “Property” > “HardwareIDs”)?

Hello, and thank you for the reply. I really appreciate it.

I think the latest version would be fine. Under Windows 10 it has 15.8.1.1007.

SATA/AHCI Controller: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A282&SUBSYS_872F1043&REV_00

In case it matters…

NVMe Controller: PCI\VEN_144D&DEV_A804&SUBSYS_A801144D&REV_00

I had a lot of trouble with the USB 3.0 and chipset drivers as well. Windows 7 Setup was rejecting everything I tried and after using a drive image to "install" Windows 7 I cannot replace the chipset drivers with 300 series. The Intel chipset INF utility only supports up to 200 series chipset.

The USB 3.0 Controller: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A2AF&SUBSYS_872F1043&REV_00
The USB 3.1 Controller: PCI\VEN_1B21&DEV_2142&SUBSYS_87561043&REV_00
Z370 Chipset Controller: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A2C9&SUBSYS_872F1043&REV_00

The original Intel RST(e) drivers v15.8.1.1007 WHQL natively do support Win7 and your on-board Intel SATA AHCI Controller.
You can find download links to the driver >here<.

A small package with the related Intel Chipset Device INF files are attached.
Regarding the Intel USB 3.0/3.1 drivers I am looking for a solution.
Update: The latest original Intel and ASMedia USB 3.0/3.1 drivers defintively do support your on-board USB 3.0/3.1 Controllers.

Everything installed perfectly now. You’re awesome, bro. Thanks again.

Now I will make a new USB Windows 7 installer with these drivers integrated.
