[ARCHIVE] Outdated UBU Tool related Questions, Reports and Suggestions

Yes, but you can manually update them and benefit of performance and better stability or compatibility.

Performance is the key…try old OROMs and IRST drivers in a RAID 0 setup and compare results with tests of OROMs V.13.5.0.2118 with IRST drivers V.13.5.x.xxxx and you’ll see some grerat differences in numbers.

Cheers,

KK

M.Fernando,

this is it :

This is good news. It is a pity that is not yet available script files BSF for the correct transfer settings.

Well. I do not use speed mode to RAID-0, since I’m more interested building arrays to store data in RAID-10 or RAID-5.
There are the results of testing modules IRST v13.1.0.2126 vs. v13.5.0.2118, in the mode RAID-0 on motherboards with the 7-series chipset?

I agree with you SoniX infact i use RAID 0 based on Intel chipset motherboard only for 2x128GB Samsung 830 (PC based on ASRock Z77 OC Formula) and 2x256GB Samsung 840 Pro (PC based on Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH) for the OSes, the RAID 10 that i use for stored data is managed by dedicated LSI controllers.
Here Performance of the Intel RST/RSTe Drivers Fernando have tested RAID 0 of 2 SSDs until Intel RST(e) RAID driver v13.1.0.1058 WHQL (dated 05/28/2014) in combination with Intel RAID ROM v13.1.0.2126 but there aren’t tests with OROMs V.13.5.0.2118 + IRST V.13.5.0.1056 WHQL.
As I have tested the latest OROMs with the latest IRST drivers with good results, i will search the screenshots and post them, if i don’t find them i’ll just make the tests as soon as I have the free time to do so.

Cheers,

KK

Ok! Now I am making some updates in Ubu. Also true of the ability to update IRST OROM and EFI 13.5.0.2118.
But of course I would like to see the results of testing version 13.5.0.2118. And then a lot of talk, but no good there.

Fernando & SoniX:

Guys, I’m not disagreeing with you. I know that the oROMs have nothing to do when the system is running in AHCI. I know that pretty much everything after v12.9 oROMs won’t bring any performance benefit for Z77 when running in RAID. BUT, the drivers do matter. My objection has to do with driver support, not oROM.

Basically, it would be beneficial to still have v13.1.0.2126 oROM ONLY in case you frequently switch between AHCI & RAID for some reason. Truth is, most people don’t do that. I thought it would be a good idea to keep it. If you think it’s a longshot (very rare use-case) then yes, I guess it should be removed alltogther.

So you agree with us?

The (old) Intel RST RAID driver/OROM combo v11.2 will run fine with Windows 10 and probably stay the best performant and stable combo for Intel RAID0 systems.

Since AHCI users don’t need to care about the Intel RAID ROM/EFI RaidDriver of their BIOS, they can compare all available AHCI drivers, which do support their Intel SATA AHCI Controller and use the "best" of them.
By the way: I am pretty sure, that Intel will offer new Win10 compatible Intel AHCI drivers v13, which natively will support 7-Series Chipset systems.

Can you please explain, what that means?

Whoops!
In general, returned back to the ability to update IRST v13.5 on MB with 7-series chipset.

That sounds good. So you meant: no restriction anymore for 7-Series Chipset users.

That’s why I said: "Basically, it would be beneficial to still have v13.1.0.2126 oROM ONLY in case you frequently switch between AHCI & RAID for some reason". Otherwise, indeed when it comes to AHCI only the drivers matter (check for stability and performance) and not the firmware.

I hope so. My guess is that it will be old Intel drivers modified by Microsoft to include the Z77 AHCI device ID’s like it’s done on older hardware at newer operating systems.

Hi Sonix,
the 2180 Version Orom VBIOS Haswell is available? Why not integrate into UBU?

Hi all!

Just to note a minor issue in latest UBU v1.8.12: I think it is missing BRenamer.exe. Also, there is an empty "FFS" folder under Modules>VGA>GOP folder.

Keep the good work SoniX!

Yes. Intel Sandy/Ivy Bridge and Haswell VBIOS differences and modification (13)

Because VBIOS for Haswell and Broadvell require individual settings for each motherboard. Look at this thread, I give a simple description of how to do it.

Thank you for your comments. I have uploaded the correct archive file.

New vbios 2180 Haswell, Can we get a link please?

Am I understanding this correctly - this gives AHCI support?

EDIT by Fernando:Unneeded quoted text deleted (to save space)

In Previous version of UBU, if you had not a intel 8 or 9 series your were unable to upgrade to 13.5 on intel 7 series, in this latest version SoniX unlock the restriction of 8 et 9 series only, so you are able to install it on intel 7 series (for Raid purpose), that’s all i think.

Ghostearth.

It is dated 11/22/2013, so not really new. You can find the files within the VBIOS package, which had been linked by SoniX within >this< post.

Thank you for the prompt correction!
Meanwhile I have replaced the UBU tool v1.8.12,which I had uploaded yesterday to my OneDrive account, by the new silently corrected package.
To avoid any misunderstandings by the users I have renamed it to "UBU_v1812_corrected". Additionally I have added a note regarding the silent update to the "Changelog" chapter within the start post of this thread.
