Asus P10S-M WS unlock bios menu

Hi.

Few weeks ago friend gave me this motherboard and now i’m trying to find a way, to set memory frequency a bit higher. This board supports DDR4 up to 2133MHz for skylake and 2400MHz for kabylake cpus.
I made dump with IFR Extractor and found memory settings.
So memory can go up to 3200MHz, but i don’t know how to enable that menu. Is there any way to do it?

Btw already modified bios with UBU and successfully flashed it with flashback.

@Jest - First, lets check and see if this adds the second options list (Well last from IFR), if it does, then I will next send you one with first original set hidden so you don’t have duplicate entries
If this does not add it, don’t worry, just means different method needed and I will send you that BIOS next.

You are changing and seeing this setting at Advanced >> Chipset >> System Agent Config >> Memory Config in your actual BIOS correct? If not, please let me know where exactly you see memory speed option (I didn’t dig around right now)

@Lost_N_BIOS - Thanks for the response. I flashed bios, but now there are two menus for memmory frequency, first one goes up to 2133 and second goes up to 3200MHz, but if i select more than 2133, automatically switches to AUTO.

Great, thanks for quick report back @Jest. As I mentioned, there may be two memory freq settings, I didn’t want to leave you with zero so I left original enabled at first so we could check if that method enabled the other or not.
Now I will remove original like I mentioned in a second BIOS for you Test this one, and see if you still get same switching to auto or not, that may happening in other due to the first one still being there too.

Make sure you set above that >> Dimm Profile to >> Custom
What CPU do you have, it may be an actual CPU limit too? Are either of those limited to a certain frequency that you know of?

* Edit - here is similar mod, but done differently, in case one of those suppress if’s was stopping you from being able to utilize the contents too, instead of just visibility alone. Test both, see if they both act same way

I tried mod2 and set to 2400MHz and 2666 (setting in bios shows correct option), but bios and cpuz still shows 2133MHz. Unfortunately i must go to work, so i don’t have the time to try mod3 right now.
Sorry, forgot to mention, i use Xeon E3 1235L V5, so i guess cpu is a limiting factor.

I really appreciate your help.

You’re welcome. Maybe same with mod3 too, but try so we can confirm once you have time later.
Is that an officially supported CPU for this board? If yes, then it’s not an Intel ME issue. Maybe that CPU only support certain speeds, this is true with some Xeon, I’ll look around about that model and see if I can find any info.

Yes it’s a workstation motherboard, C236 chipset, so xeons are officially supported.
I’ll try mod3 later, maybe tomorow.
Thanks.

Most stuff I’m finding is only showing 2133 as mex for all E3-1200V5 series, some say up to 2400 with bclk overclock but I only see on report of 2250-2300 via bclk, so it may not just be the original stock BIOS limiting things

So there is no easy way? Well i knew it was a long shot.
Thanks for clearing that.

But there is no settings for bclk, so there nothing we can do?

Did you test both BIOS I sent you last night yet? Bclk I can maybe enable for you too, I’ll have to look and see. Those threads I mentioned seeing bclk being discussed was on other boards, just with your same or similar series CPU.
And that was just all I could find people saying online, I could not find anything official either way (Or officially known/documented by reviewers or other non-Intel people).
Of course Intel says xxxx limit, but they always say that, even for boards than can run 3200+ they say max is 2133 for example, I’m sure you know what I mean about that.

I can’t find Bclk option in BIOS even hidden, so probably not possible with BIOS itself. Intel XTU may let you adjust bclk within windows, you’ll have to try and see.

@Lost_N_BIOS - I tried mod3, but it does not work. It shows bios post screen, but i cannot enter bios at all, just flashing underline? (sorry i dont know exact word).

OK, sometimes that doesn’t work, however you can try this one too if you want. It’s mod3 minus mod2, mod3 was third method plus second, this one removes second in case it was causing third to fail (hard to explain in short terms I suppose ).
It may fail as well, if third method is what causes the failure outright. If this one doesn’t work either, then mod 2 is best bet at working, and since it’s not then must be due to chipset or CPU etc as we’ve discussed.
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…331033168134477

Flashed mod4, it posts, but when it should enter bios, just shows blue screen and that’s it. Tried to reset several times, sometimes it doesn’t even post.
I guess this is the end of the road.

Yes, sounds like Mod2 is only way to go, and since that doesn’t allow you to use higher than 2133 anyway, might as well flash back to stock sorry I couldn’t help more

Does using XMP allow you to go higher than 2133, or is your memory only setup for 2133 in the XMP profile? Usually this wont help if it’s a chipset or CPU related limitation, but if you haven’t tried yet maybe try using XMP with mod2 if your memories XMP is setup for higher than 2133

You helped me more than i could hoped for. At least we tried.

Memory is g.skil ripjaws 4 2666 C15 2x4GB with XMP, but i dont know if this motherboard even reads XMP. I’ll take a look later.

Thanks, really appreciate it.

@Lost_N_BIOS I have another question.
This xeon 1235L is a low power 25W, but when i delided this cpu i did some tests with prime95, and i noticed that for a minute or two cpu went to 35W power draw (core temp shows this, don’t if it is reliable) and boost was also up for about 200MHz on all cores.
Is this a bios setting or IME or something else?

I hope you understand what i’m trying to say, english is not my native language.

Try XMP and see what outcome is for XMP 1 and XMP 2 BIOS options.

I do know what you mean about the wattage draw, but I cannot explain how or why you see that, sorry. I assume it’s 25W TDP on stock, not when turbo’d, so that may explain it

@Lost_N_BIOS
Unfortunately there is no XMP settings (or i cannot find it).
I think it should be somwhere under System Agent Configuration, but its not.

20190206_112741a.jpg

@Jest - It should be at Advanced >> Chipset >> System Agent >> Memory Config - "Dimm Profile (Default, Custom, XMP 1, XMP 2). If you were not changing this before, from Default to Custom, that would be why it’s always failing to allow you to set higher than 2133 (Which is probably “Default”)
Thanks for the pic, yes it should be right above the setting I enabled for you previously. Here is mod2 again, with now Dimm Profile enabled and a ton of other memory settings.
http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…966708337377204

Now, try Custom and set Max Memory Freq to 2400 or above - then later if that keeps failing try XMP options.
Sorry I didn’t mention that before, I thought I asked you if you set Dimm Profile to custom, but maybe we missed each other on this setting previously it has to be changed from default to custom to try anything above 2133 probably.

Can you set memory voltage, and other related voltages, or do those need enabled too?

There are absolutely no other memory setting except memory frequency, as you can see from that picture. This is under System Agent Conf./Memory configuration.
