ASUS P8P67 DELUXE B3 (P67) mouse and keyboard stops working at random after ME firmware update?

A few days ago I installed the Intel MEI Driver v11.0.0.1167 and later ran into some major issues, where my mouse and keyboard will lag every ~5 min for a few seconds or freeze and flash at random (which always requires a hard reset).

I tried fixing that problem by once again updating my motherboard’s ME firmware after having browsed Asus VIP forum 8.1.30.1350 but that didn’t solve anything (might actually have made it worse).

My issues all started after having updated using the above mentioned MEI installer driver/firmware and by automatically having updated to 8.0.2.1410 firmware.

Where do I find that older “stock” or factory default (it should be either 8.0.2, 8.0.1 or 8.0.0) previous to 8.0.2.1410 in order for me to downgrade my firmware and successfully solve my current problem?

Any help at all or suggestions on how to acquire it would be highly appreciated.

How do I proceed? Help!

I don’t think ME drivers/firmware have anything to do with your problem. It’s something else that you did. Either way, older ME drivers can be found at section D of the ME Thread. Updating/downgrading the ME firmware has nothing to do with mouse & keyboard.

I did manage to downgrade to 8.1.10.1286 using FWUpdLcl64, but it’s not stable enough and as I mentioned earlier, I don’t know where to find the older 8.0.0, 8.0.1 or 8.0.2 firmware (not driver/software).

Would it be possible for you to point me to where I could acquire them from your delicious website or is this where my fun ends?

The problem is not ME-related. It makes no sense to be.

Downgrading via FWUpdate to lower firmware may not be possible if it’s VCN is lower than your current version’s VCN. You can use ME Analyzer + ME8 firmware repository (which I assume it’s where you have found the older firmware versions) in order to check the VCN of the firmware compatible with your system (ME8).

The latest BIOS from ASUS has a very old ME firmware inside, 8.0.2.1410 which has a VCN of 2.

Downgrading to it won’t solve your issue but if you have an unlocked Flash Descriptor (check with Flash Programming Tool fptw -d -SPI.bin command from ME System Tools v8.x package found at the ME Thread, error 26 means that it’s locked, otherwise it’s unlocked) you can just reflash the latest BIOS from ASUS and the ME will be reverted back to the old version from 2012.

Thank you for showing me the way to certain victory!

I was able to successfully downgrade my firmware from 8.1.10.1286 to 8.0.2.1410 using FWUpdLcl64 with the suggested repository.

I'm still a rookie when it comes to this (especially on how to properly use your software) have been running those .exe's in CMD using the cd command as an Administrator.

My very similar mainboard Asus P8P67 Rev3.1 even works with the Intel ME Firmware v8.1.65.1586 (1.5MB) and Intel MEI Driver v11.0.0.1167 without any problems.

It seems that ME8 was left at VCN 2 after 8.0.0.1340 even up until 8.1.65.1586. It’s the only firmware that behaved like that. That’s why you were able to downgrade with FWUpdate.

As RoughBoy said, you won’t experience any issues even with the latest firmware from 2015. Now that you downgraded, I’m fairly certain you realize the problem was not ME.

My mouse and keyboard have been running fine for the past 24 hours, but it's to early to say for sure.

I'll make sure to report back if I were to run into the same issues.
