Asus Q302L BIOS update problems

Hi @Lost_N_BIOS ,

I have extracted the BIOS from my chip - here is the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1sUuzMW…lTqG0cmxnh65RUI

This is the image after I upgraded the BIOS to 205 and it stopped working after that. Could you please help me and provide a fixed image I can flash the chip with? If you need the S/N and a photo of the back label, I can PM that to you.

Thank you,
Sid

Hi @sidmodi ,
I’ve prepared a BIOS image for you with all your sensitive data from the bricked image.
Just try http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil…386292481436255

@tarask1n it worked! Thank you so much for preparing the image for me. I will now try and get ASUS to pull that 205 image down from the Q302LA page. I will link this thread to them, hopefully they are able to do something about it.

Well, I should have researched before updating the BIOS using Winflash and 205 from ASUS site, it was previously BIOS 203.

Exact same problem as here and why I joined this forum: Asus Q302L BIOS update problems

They should have a compatibility warning of sorts on their site for their BIOS 205 like others… Should I contact ASUS tomorrow? I searched high and low for an alternative to contacting customer service. Not sure how I’m going to tell my 10 yo he’s gonna have to wait for a fix on his laptop because daddy (or ASUS) is a bone head updating the BIOS when nothing was wrong with it in the first place.

You know the old saying, if it ain’t broken…however I could not resist as it was released last year and labeled “Optimize system performance.”

Add me to this list, CH341A kit is being delivered tomorrow for Asus Q302LA-BBIT14 going from 203 to 205 BIOS that bricked. Chip is W25Q64FV where this pdf, pages 6-9, helps understand what we’re doing: https://www.winbond.com/resource-files/w…%2007182017.pdf

@JTizel - Delete this, or merge it with the thread you linked? You’re report is a little unclear

Asus is still calling people liars or “you are alone in this issue, no one else affected” Wow, I did not realize this BIOS is a year old, I can’t believe they have not pulled it yet!

Now that I see more what this is about, I will merge your post

To everyone waiting on help - I will be back into posting soon, I’ve been away from home for a few weeks recently, and am now trying o get caught back up with some stuff here, and then 50+ PM’s, I will try to make my way back in here to help soon as I can!

I am so glad i found this tread. Literally had the same issue as the OP. upgraded to Win 10 and was installing drivers, saw a BIOS update (205) and though eh ill go ahead and do that. Ran WinFlash and boom, bricked. Talked to ASUS support and of course my laptop is out of warranty so they wanted a minimum of $60 just to look at it plus who knows how much more to reflash it. I bought a CH341 programmer and clip and thanks to your help i was able to load on one of the BIOS dumps you put on here and bring my laptop back to life. I was going to see if you guys would be able to give me a BIOS with my laptops info on it as obviously the one i loaded has someone else’s information. I dont have a pre-brick BIOS dump, but i did make a dump before trying to program anything onto my chip which ive listed below.

Again, i cannot thank you guys enough for all the help you have provided, it has literally saved my laptop.

@androliv Welcome onboard.

Thank you.

Worked like a charm! Thank you so much tarask1n!!

I reported to ASUS the issues with the firmware and requested it be taken down, hopefully our requests will be noted and they’ll do something about it to prevent others from going through this.

I’ve sent an email referencing this thread straight to the CEO and I urge any impacted to do the same: https://www.asus.com/us/support/Article/787

To substantiate what others have already reported about Asus’ response:

Thank you for your recent contact to our CEO’s office. My name is Kim D., and I am happy to assist you.

I hate to hear that you, and others, have had issues with BIOS version 205 for the ASUS Q302LA notebook. I did review the forum post that you sent. Please understand that out of the thousands of units sold of this model, we have only now received a few reports of this issue, despite this BIOS version being released in June of last year. Therefore, this problem has not risen to the level of being a “known issue”. ASUS is not discounting the personal experience of any customer that has encountered this issue, but it does not appear to be widespread. I have escalated this BIOS issue to our Technical Product Management Team of engineers for their review. As soon as I have heard back from our engineers, I will relay what they have found out about this BIOS version and issue. Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of this issue. ASUS would not be the company that it is today without outstanding customers, such as yourself.

If you have any further questions, comments and/or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know. It will be my pleasure to assist you directly.

Thank you for choosing ASUS and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,

Kim D.

@JTizel I cannot download your BIOS file, please check the link you provided.

Hello, I really appreciate your assistance but I’m good to go. Thank you, sincerely.

All,
I posted back in January and just now got around to grabbing my bricked BIOS file from my laptop. I’m not sure if I need any other info, but here is my bin file, and hopefully someone here can assist.

Thanks to all who know way more than I do about these kinds of things!

@LoTGoD - http://www.filedropper.com/lotgod-203fixed

@Lost_N_BIOS I can’t thank you enough! I’m now able to boot my laptop and everything is working great! You are a life saver!

Congratulations! ASUS removed 205 BIOS from official site. https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/Q302/HelpDesk_BIOS/

@LoTGoD - You’re welcome! Great to hear all is well again in your world

@tarask1n - great, thanks for noticing this and letting everyone know! They must have eventually listened instead of just saying “Ohh no, it’s year old BIOS all is OK” and finally tested themselves and found the issue is real!
@JTizel - You’re emails, on top of everyone else’s reports here, probably made them start looking seriously, thanks

@androliv @leksem @sidmodi @Techsavvydad - I guess you all can possibly expected a new 206 BIOS or something to be added there soon
If it kills you all again, let me know, I will help save you all once more

Dude, you’re a hero! Such good news.
